Debuting in 2004 with Counter Strike: Source, Valve’s Source Engine may be getting a bit old, but that doesn’t mean the developer wants to drop it and start over with a new engine any time soon.

“That’s just the way we work with that engine, [we] just update it not just replace it,” Valve’s Chet Faliszek told GamingLives.

Faliszek said they may create a Source 2 “at some point” however the current model is easier for the time being.

“When you replace an engine you’re replacing the tools and the way that people work, there’s an expense in man hours and people learning and people getting up on it right.”

Valve’s Source engine will be powering the developers next releases, Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

To be honest, the source engine is still one of the better looking ones out there, not to mention nice and smooth. Take left 4 dead 2 for instance. It still looks great and the game runs great on PC.

Except for the HL2 sttttuuuuttteeerring ;)

Stuttering? Better PC maybe? :)

I don't see the Source engine lasting that much longer, it definitely is showing signs of aging, maybe DOTA2 will show off the new improvements.
