Valve vs Blizzard: DOTA name battle comes to an end

“We both want to focus on the things our fans care about, creating and shipping great games for our communities.” HAHAHAH
If you want to bring the fans "great games" Valve then stop releasing stupid crap on Steam like 'Revelations 2012' (that looks like shit) for $10 and 'Dogfighter' doesn't even bloody work...

Sorry for derailing before departure....

You should actually thank Valve for allowing those games. Overly aggressive filtering of products on their store would be detrimental to the customers since we would be denied the right of choice. It would also more likely cause strange little gems to escape notice since we would never be exposed to them in the first place.

I don't mind small/unknown indie games being released on Steam, but if the game wont even launch or if it crashes every 2 seconds then how can Steam release it? Surely they should check the games first?

I am glad that Blizzard backed down. They had nothing to do with the creation of DoTA with the exception of actually providing the game platform on which it was built. The fans would know the truth, that "Blizzard DoTA" would only be there because of the hard work of the previous lead map developers who had a passion for creating an entire new genre of game.

You weren't really paying attention here were you? Blizzard sided with the fans on this one, it was Valve who wanted to prevent anyone else (including other modders) from using the name.

Well considering that the developer (IceFrog) who originally made the DOTA mod is currently working at Valve on the DOTA2 project, you'd think he'd want to "protect" his product/brand.

Except that IceFrog was not the only developer, and he certainly wasn't the original developer as far as I know.
