Vehicle hijackings up in Gauteng

Vehicle hijackings in Gauteng increased by two percent in the past financial year, premier Nomvula Mokonyane said on Friday.

"Officers have now shifted focus from vehicle and driver fitness only, but have also included apprehending criminals that use road networks to escape from scenes of crime," Mokonyane told reporters in Johannesburg.

Mokonyane was releasing the province's 2012/13 crime statistics, from April 2012 to March 2013.
