Very very interesting concept for MMOs

Sure does look pretty.
The concept seems solid, but I dunno how long it would "hold" the average player.

this looks interesting, I may need to commandeer my siblings ps3 for this.
now if the ground troops where mech warriors I'd be even more interested
kinda like mech 4 mercenaries, or the new indie game hawken.

It has a lot of hold, you just have to experience the type of game play. In terms of MMO's, Eve (and now Dust) stands in its own category.

There are a lot of people saying that CCP wont pull it off, but you simply have to look at the development and what they have pulled off in the past to see that this game will be nothing but a hit. For the past 3 years, Eve has been building up to the integration with this game. CCP have studios all over the world, so they are not some small company trying to do something bigger than they can handle. Everything is already in place.

From Eve's point of view, we have an expansion coming out soon which allow you to walk in your private captains quarters and view your ship (scaled to size) from the balcony. The expansion which comes out 6 months after that will allow you to walk around in stations with other players. You can rent space in the station to setup bars or stalls. Bars will allow players to not only make money, but also hand out missions/bounty/tasks to other players via the bartender. I dont think it will be long after dusts release before players in space are walking around station with players from planetside.

These two games are definitely both still ahead of their time, and are both the future of mmo's. You know what they say... the future is fusion.

I have a ps3 as well so I am super amped for this. Its going to be a WoW killer.

Look, I played Eve for 6 months before giving up my 2 accounts. Just got into blockade running for corps for hire with my stealth cargo ship. I actually enjoyed killing NPC pirates in belts in 0.0 space, the risk of being ganked pretty high. The whole thing about making money got to me though, it was all what the game was about for me, I hate bully games (read: PVP) so 90% of Eve put me off totally.

So in the end I had tons of cash and very little to do with it. It would be great to have something else to do in the PVE part of it.

Did you try out the incursions? I haven't had the chance yet, but my corp mates have said it is very challenging because the AI is more advanced than sleepers (which were a challenge in their own right).

I thought the EVE universe was big and absorbing enough already without DUST as well. Will be interesting to see what it is actually like but wow thats one massive persistent gaming environment. People will forget which world they actually live in.

Credibility flush initiated.

I think you misunderstood me anyway.
By "hold" I specifically refer to its psychological grip on the player.

Skinner-box holds work fine, even on people. Their main problem is that one day, the entranced HUMAN simply snaps out of it with a resounding "WTF AM I DOING THIS FOR?!".

What they SEEM to be doing is trying to HIDE their Skinner-box behind something. I can't immediately SEE the box. But somehow I know it's there.
If they've buried the box too deep, players wont get "held" by it.

(It may help if you search up on Skinner and his box experiments first)
