Victims of the Vampires

I'm sitting here at the Blood donor clinic at Atterbury and got curious. So my question of the day is do we have any other Blood donors here.

Today was number 24 if anyone is interested.

I am ashamed to say that I have never donated blood. It's not that I am terribly afraid of needles, it's more the thought of my life-blood being drained from my body. I find that thought rather frightening.

I am an organ donor though :p

I dont like needles so will only have a blood test if its required or if I am dying :p.

That's why I started donating, I was also terrified of needles. They actually kicked me out the first 2 times I tried.

Don't you have to die to become an organ donor

I used to be a blood donor but unfortunately the last 5 times my blood pressure was to low to donate so I have stopped for now.

nope, I have tried once but failed. They told me some people cant because their body involuntarily goes into a protection mode ,if they are afraid of needles etc., where all veins and arteries are drawn deeper. So they couldn't find a vein. I wasn't to upset though.

Actually just speaking about blood and veins makes me want to pass out. Sat out the class for many a biology lesson back in the day!

about 11 or so, once a year since i started working (2006) and twice a year in school starting at grade 11

Its to get to the point of trying it is the hardest not the actually blood taking and needles, I cant even watch other people having their blood taken or injections :D

I will probably faint if I tried like my brother who fainted when he saw a needle :p

I also donate there at atterbury:D. I've done 20 now. Next one in 4 weeks.

I STILL hate that needle, but at least you get cookies:P
And I'm saving someone's life. I've seen patients bleeding out and needing 10+ packs of red cells - I can't not donate.

I have no problems with needles.
It's usually a very cute nurse assisting me with the injection, so she takes my mind off the fact that a thick-ass needle is being inserted into my arm.

You made me cringe when I read "thick-ass needle is being inserted into my arm" put me off needles for life now :(.

Cant even watch my cat getting an injection or on TV doubt I could, but I may try again.

It's very true that to overcome any fear, all you need to do is face that which you are afraid of. So next time, ask the nurse to stick the needle into your eye instead. It worked for All Our Children.

It's really not that bad. You only feel pain for a short period (1 second - give or take).
Not that I mean to instill fear, but the extraction is a little more painful than the insertion.

Extraction isn't really that painful for me just feels weird, like a sting when you flick that part of the arm.
