Video game apocalypses that could actually happen

Humans really do have the ability to mess things on earth up. If it will be AI - skynet anyone? - taking over, or some chemical compound mistakenly released by the CIA or a nuclear bomb detonated by those ISIS nut jobs who knows.
 
Video games apocalypses have shared a common theme with movies and series. Its either zombies, or nuclear war, or a virus, or something. The apocalypses trope has been played out to death. What really is interesting fro games are the dystopian futures they create. Some games have painted a really grim, dark, and in some cases, an all too real picture to where the world is headed. Perhaps a more interesting list would be the dystopias in gaming and how those are coming true.
