Video Game Violence Articles

I'd like to recommend that we completely ignore articles dealing with video games causing violence. I am willing to accept the fact that someone playing Call of Duty might be influenced to violence by it. However, I make that claim based on the assumption that the person playing Call of Duty is,
a. Already insane,
b. Being treated by an equally insane psychiatrist, and
c. Stupid.

Equating video games as the prime source of violence is like saying that Genghis Khan was a dick because he lived in a time period where men were stereotyped as being strong. It's attributing the wrong source entirely.

I honestly find it annoying. As far as America goes, which is the only country prone to having mass killing sprees as opposed to some insane kid stabbing his father over an XBox game, they are literally assigning responsibility EVERYWHERE, like they've done for years, and not looking at, "Hey, maybe we kind of suck. Maybe our parenting sucks as a nation. Maybe our mental health is ineffective or even damaging." Instead they say, "Video games, TV, Barack Obama, Judgement Day, Fox News and poor gun control, in that exact order."

It's annoying. Gamers have a lifestyle. We don't blame night clubs and youtube for creating a generation that finds the prospect of intercourse under the influence of LSD in a bathroom more valuable than reading a book. Why should we let stupid politicians blame us for interesting ourselves in one of the least violent hobbies widely available at this juncture in history?

Therefore I suggest to MyGaming that they just stop reporting on stupid 'video games linked to violence' topics. It's just a suggestion. But I think the only way these people get airtime is by making ridiculous remarks, so why give them the traffic?

Ignoring it won't make it go away. This is a relevant discussion regardless of whether gamers like it or not. If we do not understand what is being talked about, how would you go about trying to influence the outcome?

Humorous yet poignant post. If we did see that the articles were not read, then we would not post them. However, it seems there is part of our audience who finds the topic interesting, and so we write it up.

This is a gaming forum, so it should seem obvious that articles regarding gaming; whether it be bad or good publicity for gaming, be posted. It's pointless ignoring these updates, and you have the choice as to whether or not you choose to read these articles or not. It's for everyone to see. Whether they wish to speculate on that, or simply give an opinion. Yes, it can be annoying, but it's good to know what's going on in the media regarding this exact topic.

It's appreciated. And these articles that are posted are very informative for people like me (who don't watch local TV).:p

We can't bury our head in the sand and wait for the issue to move along. At the end of the day, whether you like it or not, these articles affect the gaming industry and therefore are important for gaming followers to know about.

Might I suggest that just you hide your head in the sand and leave the true fans to read about articles that will affect their passion.

I end with this quote "in order to defeat ones enemies we need to know our enemy."

I think ignoring the topic is just as bad as saying games cause gun violence, its something that should be discussed. If you disagree with something, it does't make you right. If you don't want to discuss something don't click on the link and carry on ignoring it, but it's kind of ironic that you don't want to discuss it but you posted one of the longest responses to the topic yourself.

Points taken. I understand the need for awareness of the issue, but I guess this was stating my opinion pretty boldly.

Even though I know ignoring it won't solve it, discussing the issue won't fix it either.

I'm not saying we shouldn't discuss it. What I am saying is that stupid people will make stupid remarks to get traffic through stupidification. And I'm also saying that giving people attention for being stupid is something which will keep the debate alive.

Anyways. Thanks for the input :P
