Video game visuals that blew us away

Almost any Psygnosis game on the Commodore Amiga. Shadow of the Beast, Killing Game Show, etc...

top visuals for me would be at the time of their release and still good looking today imo

ps1
fear effect retro helix
tekken 3
soul blade

Dreamcast
soul calibur
sega marine fishing
house of the dead 2

ps2
tekken tag
tekken 5
gran turismo 3

Pc
syberia 2
dreamfall
need for speed porsche unleashed

I will always remember these for having visually wowed me when I first played them:

The first Prince of Persia.
The first Need for Speed.
Oblivion.

Playing earthworm jim blew me away when I first played it. And this was when I was just playing nes games from the late 80s lol.

Quake
unreal
Quake 3
crysis

I remember way back when Doom 1 was released I thought holy crap this looks real, there's no way in hell that they will ever be able to make better graphics than this!

The next game that really blew me away was Crysis. It was amazing.

Crysis seriously impressed me with its visuals.

Lighting and colouring (Hue, saturation etc) can make or break a game. Too much lighting can make objects look like they're plastic, even when they're not.

The first Far Cry was graphically amazing.
Dat underwater view!!

TES: Oblivion was the next best wow moment in terms of graphics for me.
Still has one of the best looking zombie to date IMO.

The most mind appalling to believe possible for me was Final Fantasy XII, God Of War 3, Crysis, Witcher 2, Uncharted 3, Final Fantasy 8.

Agreed.

I was impressed with F.E.A.R.'s looks back when it was released, and in my opinion it hasn't aged badly at all. The character graphics and animation in particular were great.

I was impressed by the enemy AI, trying to flank you and jumping through window frames and so on... It really made the battles feel alive!
