! Views on X360 Achievements !

The Xbox Gamer Points system has actually made me move away from PC. It gives me more motivation to play a game & find all hidden "treasures".

I still have to get a complete 1000 points for a game. :o

I managed to get 100% on Assassins Creed 2, and on the first playthrough as well. :)

It is a mixed bag for me. All depends on the game.

And, IMO, what the achievement needs you to do. I play games to have fun. NOT to get myself ripped apart every two seconds by an enemy fart cause I've set the difficulty to "Put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye".

That's what I loved about AC2. Some achievements required skill, but not "Headshot a flea sitting on a Brute's Hammer at 500m while riding a unicycle and eating delicious cake...... nom, nom, nom" skill. What irritates me even more is that these ridiculous achievements bag you 5, maybe 10, points.

The only thing that sucks (well in my position) are the online achievements.
They should be in their own catagory, that way people like me who can't afford to go on Xbox live can get full points.
Like a menu next to where you get the icons of games you got 1000 point, would be online full or sumthin to that effect.

I think achievements/trophies are a nice addition to the games, but I couldn't care less how many trophies I get for a particular game. I just play the game to enjoy it, the moment I have to collect X amount of Y or get a 1000 hit combo or something for a trophy it starts feeling like a chore and I don't enjoy myself anymore. The only game I ever tried to get the platinum for was Assassin'c Creed 2 and I gave up after collecting 50 feathers, there is no way in hell I can stand running around looking for more, it is just too damn tedious. Trophies can be a valuable addition to games if used correctly ala Demon's Souls, but they can also turn the relaxing act of gaming into a tedious chore.

*I know the thread is about X360 "achivements" and not PS3 "trophies", but they're pretty much the same thing.

I totally agree. Having achievements in games adds a lot to a game once you have completed the game! I have been getting plenty of extra and fun playtime from games trying to get all the achievements!

TBH I love the achievements idea. I really try hard to get as much as I can, but so far I am yet to get 1000 gamerscore on a game. I think my highest was in Forza 2. Hopefully I can get all of the Mass Effect 2 and Dantes Inferno ones.

If it wasn't for the Achievements System I wouldn't have played a lot of games on "HARD"

I just recently Finished "Bad Company 2" and Got the "It sucks to be right" Achievement.

The point I'm making is that I would never have played it on the highest level first time round if I hadn't seen this Achievement to challenge.
Now I know I'm a "HARD" Gamer not a "NORMAL" Gamer.

Peace "B"

Now untill I can afford my next game (Red Faction) I have "satellite uplinks" to destroy

I finished Dantes Inferno on saturday. Not too bad, but not the best game I have played. Have a few achievements to get still. On Sunday and yesterday, I really got stuck into Mass Effect 2. Need to some mining for upgrades.

i've always been a bit of a completionist, so i like achievements. it usually depends on the game. i don't always get them all, but i like to at least get most of them. i don't care about my gamerscore so much as just getting the achievements. and not getting them all on a particualr game gives me an excuse to break it out weeks or months down the road.

Whatever achievements I have are those I happened to get while playing the game without looking to get them. I don't waste time going back and trying to get the achievements I did not get during normal play.

I'm hooked on achievements. And like other people have already said, I find they add an enormous amount of value to games - I find myself trying all sorts of crap I wouldn't usually try, and I get more out of my games that way. Achievements motivate players.

Having said that, I'm not much of a replayer. If I don't have all the achievements by the time I've finished my first playthrough, I've very unlikely to replay the game. There are some exceptions (I've played both Gears of War titles several times over, for example), but for the most part, I simply play too many games to invest a lot of time in any one of them. Move on, start something new.

TL;DR: Gief Moar Chiefmince! :D

Yeah same ... I learnt my lesson with chiefmint hunting from WoW :/

Achievements, the way to get people addicted to it. Its like a drug at first When I heard about achievements I was meh. But now I need to collect them all.
