Voicy's Epic WoW starter guide

Fantastic! Thanks alot guys, it's great to have somewhere to ask a question!

Now for the hunting to find a profession trainer to teach me skinning :D

The point of professions is to pick a gathering profession and a crafting profession that goes hand-in-hand. Like Herbalism and Alchemy, Skinning and Leatherworking etc.

I disagree. At lower levels, you want to use professions to make money for upgrades, repairs and respeccing. Having two gathering professions helps making money fast.

When you hit lvl80 and you have a lot of money, then you can choose to get a crafting profession (or both, if you have the cash), for BoP items.

I leveled up with herbalism/alchemy, and it can be quite a pain to get money for your mount. Getting up to 5000G for artisan flying felt like it took forever.

I agree that it was originally designed for a combination. But in reality, it doesn't really work that way, unless you want to do it the painful way (like me). And some professions doesn't have a combination, like tailoring and enchanting. Neither has an actual gathering profession.

Ok, so I tried the auction house thinghymabob last night, and made about 2,5 gold. Is that good or bad?

Plus, is there any other more effective way of making moolah? What and how do i disenchant stuff? I see that some stuff are worth alot more if it is disenchanted?

That's good for someone with no experience. As you get better you will get more as well as have a larger cash pool to work with.

Disenchanting is one of the abilities of the enchanting profession. You can disenchant magical items (green and better) into base materials. The materials can be used to create enchants or to sell on the AH.

Getting kinda stuck at level 37 now... I have no idea where to go for quests

Also, I really need to level my professions as all the stuffs that I kill, I can't skin because my skill level is too low... :(

If you've installed the cartographer addon that I listed it will tell you what lvl an area is when you over over it in the zoomed out map option.

I.e. it gives the following info:

- Instances + their level i.e. (Zul'Gurrub 25man lvl60)
- Questing level i.e. (30-40)
- Fishing skill required

Have a look here to see where to quest...

The Dungeon markers refer to instances, ask in the trade channels for groups who want to run them. They're normally the best source of gear upgrades for your level.

Have you tried Desolace? Not many quests there, but there is a questline where you have to get friendly with one centaur clan by killing the other. It's an annoying rep grind but I think you should be able to get some decent XP for it. Stranglethorn Vale has a lot of quests, including the Nesingwary quests, which is also a grind. Dustwallow Marsh is also a 30-40 area, and is the easiest to get to. Just take the boat from Menethil.

/me pages back to find cartographer addon... Ok, found where you were talking about it, now to hunt for the linky...

I did most/all quests in stranglethorn (Including Nesingwary) barring that annoying "Green Hills Of Stranglethorn" quest because I still need 2 more pages.

I also did the centaur thinghy in Desolace, but haven't completed the entire string yet.

www.curse.com is where you can get your WoW add-ons.

With regards to leveling your professions - you'll want to make sure to level them before leveling your character more. You're meant to skin mobs as you're questing, and being below the level requirement is such a waste. Kill some low level mobs, skin them, then work your way up until you can skin mobs your level and slightly above :)

I figured that I needed to level the professions as I went along, but I forgot :o to go to the trainer after I maxed out on the first set. So now I run around the lower level areas, skin the krap out of beasts, look for herbs and gank the odd Horde bastard that runs past me :p

As for the cartographer, thanks for the info :D

Ugh - the lead designer from WoW moved over to another Bliz project but even mentioned that the stranglethorn pages quest was his idea and the single dumbest one at that.

Just a tip on that one... Most guys sell the pages in trade channels or the auction house, but the one place that you'll find most of it is in Booty Bay's auction house. Reason is - there are 3 auction structures in WoW:

Alliance (all cities tied)
Horde (all cities tied)
Goblins (situated in Booty Bay & Gadgetzan)

The Goblin ones are only linked to each other - nobody else. The catcher is, both alliance AND horde can use it. Hence you'll get loads of stranglethorn pages on it. We also stock the pages in our guild bank so that new characters don't have to redo it, because it's ... well ... painful.

He's turning out to be our real little prodigy :D (Glad to see you've taken up skinning + flower picking!

Give Arathi Highlands a go at your level ... it's really pretty there (just run north from Wetlands) plus it'll get you the South Shore flight point! (You'll need it to run Scarlet Monestary) ... oh and when you've reached lvl 40-42 ... go pick up quests in Tanaris, a desert map but actually rather amazing.

Arathi highlands? Is that where the refuge point is? If so, I have been there before and found the flight point there. Just have to make it to South Shore then. I think I did a quest called Stromgarde badges? You have to give them to Captain Nials at Refuge Pointe I think....

One more question folks... I'm looking to move over to Windows 7, does WoW have any issues with 7 that I should know about?
