War Z producer drops the other F-bomb, gets in trouble with the internet

I don't think he should apologize, I mean everyone swears and says shit especially when they're calling someone a noobfag for eg because of the way they're aiming doing the scope. The media shouldn't be going directly after a producer for saying it since EVERYONE will let one slip... It's bullshit really.

Thing is, the word "faggot" is also used to terrorise, oppress, and otherwise marginalise and degrade homosexual people. Its persistent use in gaming culture is pretty horrible and contributes to an environment that is already hostile to gays, much like the way the word "rape" is casually used like it's not something that happens to real people and may trigger victims who hear it.

I get what you're saying, however I feel that what I say in game should not reflect the person I am outside in the real world. I have about 6 gay friends and we talk casually as you and I are now, but I will never disrespect them as people by calling them fags etc... I leave that all to my in game anonymous personality where people shouldn't care. With occurrences l let one slip and then run it as a joke, but actually have a conscience to feel bad about it. :o

Personally I have never used the terms gay or faggot as an insult or swear word. I am more old school in my curses I guess. (perhaps a language thing?)

This.

I fucking abhor people who see no issue with calling people faggots or using the phrase "that's so gay." I do not understand why people cannot seem to understand why calling someone a homosexual as an insult or basically saying "that's so homosexual", is offensive towards gay people.

I both agree with this sentiment and don't
I'll explain

Certain terms are offensive to certain people or groups of people, while as mentioned, the term used is offensive to homosexuals, which I understand.
We all use terms in everyday life that are offensive to someone, go ahead and see if you can go through an entire day without saying ONE word that offends someone
I don't think that issues such as this should be blown up out of proportion though, in this case, and as a practical example of what has happened or is going to happen

Person uses Derogatory Language
Person is Quoted and News Sites carry the Story

Now, isn't this spreading the same offensive term over multiple formats and to a much much wider audience all of a sudden?
(It reminds me of my son, who took great pleasure in enforming his mother that Dad had said "Shit")

After this transpires, and millions have now read the story and seen the offensive term, what percentage of those readers will or have already adopted that term into their personal vocabulary?
I can guarantee you that I will see an increase in guys calling one another that online on servers in the next week based on this story alone

I think maybe, especially when it comes to issues such as this, the person or group of people that feel insulted by a term should take the high road, and instead of spreading the initial wording, possibly think about ignoring it and seeing the user as someone to avoid in future on forums and in person and to not support affiliated activities or projects if warranted.

And in regards to Internet/Real Life Persona's not sharing responsibility (Not specifically aimed at any posts in this thread but added as an afterthought) If you as a person "allow" your online persona to act in a manner which you yourself are uncomfortable accepting responsibility for, this should indicate to you that urgent and sustained professional help is required as you are in all likelihood suffering from Schizophrenia or some other equally debilitating mental condition

EDIT:
One thing to consider though and that is, is this really news worthy?
I mean if one guy, who really only has a modicum of fame in the first place on some forum somewhere that has a set audience and who's fame is debatable in the first place makes a statement like this, was it REALLY worth typing out an article to highlight his ignorance?

As an example, if I made a statement that offended someone, would it be newsworthy ?
I don't believe it would be (Not on account of having a reputation as being as sensitive as a Boar Pig) but on account of the fact that although we may impact the lives or opinions of people we come into contact with on a daily basis in some minuscule part, the majority of people do not care what other people have to say unless they are attuned to it (Which is normally due to an external factor such as the Media)

Well, the problem is not so much only the fact that he used a derogatory term, but also that he's insulting the people taking part in their game's beta as well. Saying that 80% of the people playing your beta are 'faggot snipers' is a bit of a bad move from someone trying to sell a game.

So this is offensive?

Why would pink weaponry be offensive and what does it have to do with the topic at hand? I'm not seeing the link here.

Ok I think I should sort my grammar out next time, iGame.Admin said what I was trying to say... :o

There is a difference though between saying something in the heat of the moment and then saying the same thing after the fact in a forum post.

Sure neither should really happen but a game's developer shouldn't go saying stuff like that, especially not in the game forum and talking about potential players of said game.

You said faggot snipers, made me think of Ghillie suits. Pink ones. Made me google for pink guns. Circle of life.

That should tell you enough about this game. Been reading their forums and it's a cesspit. Seems the devs do whatever the hell they want on the servers and anyone who complains on their forums gets their threads deleted.

If anyone needed any further confirmation that this is a blatant cash-in on DayZ's success, have a look at the way these guys operate.
