pings are a lot better. not sure on peak speed though yet.

Dude I would jump ship, u can always come back when they are working. U currently paying for a service u are not getting, so why hang around.

100% agree. Just needed someone to tell me that I guess. Will do it now and look around for alternative. Web Africa capped account is looking appealing. 90+360Gb is what I'll need. Any idea how long it will take me to cancel Afrihost and move to WA? Can I do it all online today?

If I remember right with AH, u need to cancel before the 25th of the month, just check on ur client portal. Also keep in mind WA requires 1 month notice to cancel a product. If u are gonna use WA, be kind and use my link in my sig ;-)
 
Is AH still having problems? They reassured me that they have installed new lines and what not to prioritize gaming. I was looking for a new ISP, so not sure if it was a marketing tactic

last night i couldn't do anything online due to my upload speed being so pathetic (I only have 512 kb up). I could hear everyone and see people move in games but they cant hear me and when they do it's about a 1.5 sec delay. so i don't know if someone in the house was just constantly uploading stuff or if it was actually on their side

Eish that is exactly what I am afraid of! And the worst thing now is that you do not know exactly where the problem lies!

I tried BF last night, and I couldn't actually move, the lag was so bad

I will send them another message on FB and find out whats what. As they seem to be quite active on FB. They might be throttling their own lines by their own Facebook! =D

This was at about 23:30 last night though, wouldn't think there would be too much need for throttling that time of night

the reason why i think its just the upload is coz i can still hear everyone speaking.. that has zero problems... but i think i did mention that in TS my voice (uploaded) takes long to go through, no packets are lost, it is just very slow

And I can only think that its the symptom of a larger problem. What happens when you try a free account from webafrica, crystalweb or openweb? (try crystalweb first)?

so i blocked every MAC address but mine and now the interwebs are perfect. something in this damn house is constantly uploading

Had a similar situation a while back at my place. Was initially convinced my dodgy neighbour had somehow managed to hijack my wifi signal and was the "Unknown" in my connected devices list. Was losing tons of data with very little use by me or the family. Took a week to eventually figure out that it was my XBox360 doing game update downloads and downloading free Games With Gold that the kid had ordered through the PC, and that the console was set to do automatic updates.

Oh lol!!

I was having similar issues, wife was sending vids and pics to the family. My upload would constantly go to shit... QoS ftw
 
When I moved to AfriHost I queried the best possible solution for gaming, and they seriously helped a lot.. I was informed they can put you onto a low latency separate IP range that reduces the packet loss and ping. First tests before I was getting around 30ms ping and once they changed it over for me, and up till now I rarely get slower ping than around 7ms.
This is on a 10mb capped line with them.
Granted, we dont have enough traffic on our gaming servers so normally connecting to international servers which adds to the pwnage.. Just some thoughts..
