Was the Xbox TV demo staged?

I always figured it was staged, had no reason to suspect otherwise, especially since many of the clips they showed was on youtube a minute after the show was over. It also didn't look to me like anyone in the audience was actually cheering.

It is documented that the cheering came from MS employees at the back of the room, no media or other regular audience members were cheering...
