Watch Dogs heavily pirated before launch, tops torrent sites

This is when I wish devs could place a trace on their game and kill all PCs playing a game before release. Like a manual system where they log a breach and send in a PC kill squad which they could stop on release.

You mean like... some kind of DRM?

Sigh, quite sad. I hope they added some easter eggs to the pirated edition. How epic would it be if they announce that there is malware in all of the pirated copies and those users can now have their PCs taken over :P

Which is pretty much what happened. Like Joker posted one of the most popular torrents for PC included a bitcoin miner that hogs the user's system's resources for bitcoin mining. Pretty ironic since Watch Dogs is a game about hacking and system intrusions.

The bitcoin thing is just desserts for pirates I suppose, but what about people who are buying the game anyway and couldn't wait until tomorrow and just wanted a sneak peak before release? I suppose in the end piracy is still wrong so they should have waited but it's still annoying that some guy did that, at least it shouldn't be too hard to get rid of.

Haha! Now if only I still cared about Watchdogs. :(

You say ironic, I say fitting :P

I have 2 friends who are avid piraters. Seriously they love downloading illegally. They even play pirated mp games via a fake mp server client. You must check the hassles they have getting crap up and running some times. Idiots. I got 2 games from them before that I was dying to check out and it was a fraykin kak experience. The one game clearly needed some official patching(oh ya, The Witcher 2) as it was a buggy as all hell mess. Didn't even bother with the other one. I immediately realised piracy is such an incredible fail, especially with services like STEAM and Humble Bundle. I mean how cool is it finding awesome specials etc. ? Its like a game in itself!

Oh ya Steam had a Witcher 2 special over the weekend. Flippin $3, bought it immediately. Couldn't believe it.

edit* oh ya what I meant to say is, this game is most certainly going to need patching. So let the piraters suffer with kak bugs and a crap experience overall.

Yeah I suppose it is but it would have been better if ot was something the devs put in the game and not some random dude trying to make a score.

Just to be clear, I am indeed one of those who downloaded it, even though I am buying it tomorrow. I often download a game if I see it online before release, just to check it out. But ONLY if I know I am going to buy it anyway and then I ALWAYS delete the downloaded one once (or even before) I buy it. I only played WD for like 20 minutes just to see what's it like and I have already deleted it. Will scan my PC tonight for the malware but I didn't notice anything weird with regards to performance. Had there been a demo I would not have downloaded.

Would be great to have demos back hey. It's nice to try before you buy...

Yeah, demo's are awesome. I know it's not really a justification for downloading a pirate copy but I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to see it, especially since I know some local stores where already selling the game on Friday (Makro in Bloem). I have a soft spot for Ubisoft games (own most of their recent games, some on multiple platforms) and I just wanted to see how the game was.

Can't wait to properly start playing tomorrow night.
