WD vs Seagate

Which hdd Brand Do you Find Better

So just out of my own curiosity Which hard Disk do you guys think is better Seagate oR Western Digital, I have been seeing a lot of faulty Seagates lately(there is one morse coding on my desk right now) but we mainly deal in them so it makes sense i suppose.

Share any horror stories or thumbs ups if you want and vote on the poll

Voted WD because I have had a 1tb External for many years now and it has never given me any trouble.
 
No idea really since I have a samsung , wd and seagate and non of them have ever given troubles. Got a lot more seagates atm but just because that was in stock here. Samsung Is about 10 years now and the other ones also about 8+- years.
 
Most of my Hardrives are either Seagate or Samsung and haven't had any fail on me and had them for a couple of years now.
 
I voted Seagate, but only coz I've got a few of them. Also WD too come to think of it.

I've never, ever had a HD fail on me, so I'm just biased for Seagate.
 
We have a lot of HDD's coming through for Data recovery on a daily basis. The majority of them is obviously marketed related so is not a true reflection though on a % base. However out of Seagate and WD i have seen far more WD come in for recovery due to failure.

Just an observation.

I'm sure it goes both ways but I've had issues with Western Digital in the past--received a damaged hard drive which neither I nor the seller noticed until later. Then, of course, the mudslinging began because seller certainly never sold the drive damaged so it must've been me :rolleyes:

So, screw Western Digital.

Seagate (and their support) all the way.
 
You left out poor Hitachi, which was bought out by WD... As for samsung's HDD products it bought out by Seagate. Hitachi still does trade under the name of HGST, but it's a WD.

I had a few seagates die on me, had a 40GB Maxtor for 7 years before it died. I lean towards WD as they are cheaper and have awesome External HDD's. A friend would disagree and say seagate is better (he is a network engineer).

My point being. Either will do.
 
Well I'm waiting for customer support to get back to me from WD so I'll give my feedback when its sorted. I sent a message 5 years ago so shouldn't be long now
 
Didn't vote on the poll because I have in my main PC a WD 320gb drive (about 10 years old) and a Seagate 1.5tb (about 3 yo) while my kids PC has a 160GB Maxtor and 120GB Seagate (dunno how old) and then I have external drives from both makes. I've had very few hdd failures, so for me it's even.

That said, we've had some issues with Samsung external drives at work. Two out of about ten that was purchased failed. I suspect this may have been more an issue with how they were treated by the users than about the brand, though.
 
i have had quite a few wd's over the years and i've had some of the really old ones fail on me in the past but most of the new wd drives are bulletproof (not in a literal sense) in my books, i have seen more seagate than wd failures though the years and those medalist drives where the worst as for samsung 2 years ago i bought a new samsung 1.5 tb drive, lasted 6 months then failed, had it swopped out and the replacement is still running to this day.
 
Voted for WD as just last night one of my drives failed.. so dood soos 'n mossie! Turns out that it was a seagate drive. So for the time being i'm still running strong on my WD drive.
 
I currently have a external Seagate HDD, and my internal drives are all WD. I am quite partial to WD, but just because their other products are awesome. I have the WD TV Live media player and to this date it has not given a single problem. It's played every video I through at it. So I am bias, but not based on the HDD quality. Judging by the poll it seems as if it's a 50/50 call
 
I have had more seagate fail on me than WD but also owned more Seagate's. I think both are fine. I just liked seagate more as they had (not anymore) a 5 year warranty on all there drives where every one else had 1 to 3 years.
 
Yeah, this poll needs a third option - can't really say.

I've had both Seagate and WD drives fail on me. Hasn't really affected my purchasing decision, to be honest, since if they fail, they're usually a few years old, and I'll just pick whatever model provides the best replacement for what I need at the time.

They still do offer 5 year on there ES rated drives, however you pay for that now.
 
WD all the way, I deal with a lot of RMA's and shockingly enough Seagate drives fail more than WD drives..on my side of things an anyway.

I take about 20 recoveries a month, and i would say as a % 75% are WD. A lot of them are drops or surge dmg, however the numbers on my side speaks for itself.
