Web Africa discontinues FreeZone for uncapped ADSL users

Well i joined Webafrica because of the "Freezone" and now they taking it away!! Well they will be losing more than just their "Freezone" at the end of the month...

Are Mweb running at a massive loss? Or is it cause they have the market share? There seems to be no downside to mwebs uncapped offers.

I'm probably missing something (not being a WA customer and all), but isn't Freezone supposed to allow free downloads and bandwidth usage by not deducting usage from your cap? How are uncapped users then affected since there is no cap to deduct from? Unless WA was using the term "uncapped" rather loosely before, I'm not sure what the issue is.

WebAfrica makes use of a very restrictive rolling window for uncapped users (apparently only when the network is under strain). Freezone data meant that data that fell under freezone did not get added to your six hourly limit, therefore did not affect the rolling window at all.

Boooooo hoooooo hoooooo. Shame! Poor "uncapped" users who lose something free but they are still "uncapped"...

Webafrica's download plus is the best thing since sliced bread.

I have to agree with Wyzak, Im on the uncapped package and I just schedule all my big downloads for the download plus hours. I have only been throttled once since going on the uncapped package and that was my own fault for trying to update game client during the day and not stopping it before we hit the threshold.

So far their uncapped package is good. Only issue I have had is some latency in gaming at night. But it comes and goes and its not unplayable.

What I don't get is why guys moan about this. I also don't get how people can download so much in a month..Seriously..Up and till recently thanx to Satan aka Telkom not fixing my line, I ran a 4 mb uncapped unshapped account and I struggled to do more than 50GB a month. I admit it helps that I am on the Wug getting all my series and stuff, but damn how people can download 300-400GB a month is beyond me. Was kinda off topic but anyway.

With the recent hard drive price hikes, who can afford the storage for this amount of data :)

As far as I can tell from user experience it is specifically dl+ that's causing load, especially 12pm to 1am castrating your gaming.

Why restrict download patterns?
Why go with such complex system of rolling?

Part from IS rolled accounts they are the only ISP still flogging this horse. It only creates issues.

I don't think it's such an issue, they only gave uncapped accounts access to Freezone in Nov, and since then they've found that it's not going to work. But it's on uncapped accounts anyway, and if you're such a heavy user that you're going to hit the fair usage threshold, it's probably not gaming traffic that's doing it. It's more likely that you're downloading too many movies or something. Just saying

Lol, some people dunno what uncapped actually is it seems. Streaming radio all day or YouTube even half a day eats up loads of megabytes. Of the 120GB a month I do, about 20 or 30 is series/movies. To have a rolling window is idiotic and makes you use the internet at weird times instead of being free to do whatever, whenever you want. And now to still take away something that at least you could do game updates with and not get throttled? And people defending it? Lol!

Thank you Mweb for being light years ahead of everyone else ........

I'm just glad I stayed with MWEB, things on the WA uncapped are not looking good, it appears they just cant cope.

I play games after midnight quite frequently, and I haven't experienced any performance issues - sometimes I'll even have a download running at the same time - my games remain quite playable.

Mind you, I'm not on uncapped (don't see the need, personally), and I have a 10Mbps line, so I have bandwidth to spare. I think uncapped is overrated anyways, but that's just me :p

Guys I have no idea how anyone can think Mweb is awesome, I have had nothing but shit from the first month we joined. Browsing so slow it's like back in the day, 56k modem speeds.

Downloaded like 60/70Gb the first month and my connection got killed even further. The next month was a bit better for 2 weeks, then the same shit. Notified Mweb we'll be moving to new ISP well before the due date.

They respond after the due date and then later notifies us that because WE were late, not THEM, we have to pay for another month and can't end at the end of the month we intended to.

Now we are in our last month, meaning that the service we got then pales in comparison to the horrifying service we are receiving now. Broken internet, browsing slower than ever, games lagging like crazy, etc. everything more fucked up than the previous times.

Thank you Mweb for the worst service ever, I will never be able to forget how much you guys fail!

Well, I'm on mweb and never been capped or throttled or slowed down or restricted. I download what I want, when I want. I play what I want, when I want. No issues, no hassles and no fuss. And believe me, I've seriously maxed out my line. Most data was about 220GB in one month on my one meg uncapped.

This kind of thing is a pity though, cause WA is really a good bunch of people, but this will get them some bad rep.

My problem with the mweb is the fact that I have more friends using their uncapped and moaning about it than people are moaning about WA.

I for one dont mind doing my downloads at night when I am sleeping, since I share the line with 3 other people. Whilst being throttled I can say that it didnt affect my gaming at all. What ever the issue was the past few days seems to have been sorted out. And I mean it was minor stuff, say my Aion lat was 250 it went up to 500 for a couple of days and its back to normal.

I just prefer using WA since Ive gotten to know some of their sales ppl and their support staff. They have always been helpful and willing to help sort out any issues. I prefer to stay with a company that gives me proper support and feedback than with Mweb who has been billing our company for the past 3 years for a 56k modem line that hasnt been in use over 5 years. We have been trying for the past year to cancel the service but we get no feedback or responses from them.

The Freezone isn't such a deal breaker for me since I already do my downloads in the DL+ time frame. They have been having issues over the last couple of weeks with REALLY bad latencies in games which a LOT of people have been moaning about. Last night was the first time in 2 weeks that I could actually play SW:TOR.

The rolling windows are a bit of a pain since 3gb in 6 hours is easy to do when just updating games. Their notice about the throttling being a problem only when underload however is utter bullshit since I've hit it twice since December by just doing updates and there after you are screwed for anything other than browsing.

I'll still give them a chance to see what happens though, I don't care for the downloading of 400gb each month. I just want to be able to use the data as required without having to worry about hitting a cap. I mean SW:TOR downloads were 40gb for one month. There already the system worked wonders.

I haven't had the need for that. On the RedAfrica Account.
