Web Africa Steam server speed problems

I am trying to download some games I bought today from Steam. Using Web Africa's Free Zone'd servers but the speeds are quite poor... I get a max of about 70KBps, sometimes dropping to 35KBps for a few minutes at a time. I have a 6Mbps line that downloads everything else at full speed.

Any suggestions?

I think the local (probably even international) content mirrors are getting hammered, I can also only manage 70-90kB/s from the Mweb mirror.

Yep I'm also getting very slow speeds on my 4Mb line, around about 60KB/s .

Damn! I was hoping there was a setting I could change to crank it! Are the downloads always this slow or is it probably server overload from the summer sale?

Are you guys forcing your systems to use the WA steam server? I would like to exclusively start using it, but don't know how to force it.

I swapped to UK server and magically got 200-250KBs over using CT/JHB. Pipes must be shaped or something....

Same here, maybe the servers are overloaded or they are shaping it in anticipation of people downloading the games from the summer sale.

Used his setup and just since yesterday I've done over 10GB's all FreeZoned

Yes when downloads from the content servers +- double due to specials then naturally things slow down.

I would say get onto the WAGE forums, they're usually very helpful there.

Also had max 80kb last night on a download. Having lots of problems with playing online steam games though... i've been seeing lots of people online swearing at mweb, they should get their stuff sorted.

24.21 server has perfect response, the other not so much.

This morning (7AM) it opened up though.... 1.3GB an hour on average off WAGE servers. (Steam)

Sure. Only the two WebAfrica ones are interesting for WA users though...they aren't deducted from the cap.

1Mbps uncapped Mweb, getting full speed. But mayber the servers are just a bit overloaded? I reckon there is a LOT of data being DLed due to the Steam specials.

Ah ok, cool, I've left home at 7am already so not sure what the speeds are now. I'll check out some of the other servers see if it improves at all. only managed about 35% of a game during the night.
