Weekend plans

MalicE and I were talking about doing android projects someday. I'm a complete noob with it, but I'm enjoying it too, and I need to get back in to it properly. Is your work hosted on Github or somewhere?

Unfortunately not. The projects I've been working on so far have all been for my employer and he won't like having them online :) It's really a lot of fun when you actually start understanding when to use what and how to use it. Especially if you implement android's support library and design library into your projects.

You start looking differently at some of the apps on your phone after a while :D

What are you using as your IDE? android studio?

Yeah, I like Android Studio. My biggest issue so far has been the fact that I have an AMD cpu, so I couldn't use the built in emu. I had to get and set up GenyMotion (or something like that) as an external emulator, which adds another hoop to jump through when testing. Not all that awful in the grand scheme of things, but still a gripe :)

If you ever feel like working on something small together, let me know. I think I have a single layout for a project up on github, and an idea for another one bouncing around in my head.

I've never actually used android studio even though i see so many examples where people use it. I primarily code in visual studio so i decided to stick with what i know. Yea man! would be awesome to collab sometime :D

You should try it, the built in GUI builder helps. That said, I've spent about 30 minutes in VS trying to get an open source project to work with no success. I've still got to try and build one of my weekend projects in C# to get some idea of how it all works. Either way, you got a pm!

You should try using Xamarin (which is free for community and learning purposes now) in Visual Studio. After using both Android Studio and Xcode I find myself being more productive in VS. It probably helps that I've been using VS for around 12 years now...

I'll definitely have a look when I find some free time. For now it's python for fitting functions at work :(

I followed this one on Udemy, and it showed me everything I wanted to know coming from another language. Have a look, if you're still interested.

yeah that looks better. all my course did was cover web apps and html
Well, you can build fully featured mobile apps using hybrid techniques where you only use HTML, CSS and JavaScript. There are numerous frameworks, libraries and tools to help you build new hybrid apps or to convert existing web apps to hybrid. Web technologies will never go to waste, especially when browsers implement HTML5 features (like native device hardware access) better. You can already use the back- and front-facing cameras of a device over a secure connection (SSL) using very little JavaScript...

yeah but I know web, it's part of what I do for a living. I don't want to make web apps, I want to make life changing apps :p

Web apps can be life changing. Remember that most good mobile apps have a server with APIs it connects to at the back. In most cases, 80% of the work lies in a "web app" with the native mobile apps only acting as presentation tiers...

I plan to play a lot of Life is Strange this weekend. Also have some chores to do but hopefully it'll be a good gaming weekend.

Tame a couple of Allosaurs on ARK and rebuild my stock storage after loosing stuff from uninstalling one of the stack mods.

It's my sons 2nd birthday party on Saturday, just hoping it won't rain.

The rest of the weekend is pretty open, so hoping to do some gaming. Telkom also phoned me earlier today (while I was still at work). They are coming to my house because of the up to shit internet - hoping they can figure something out. They should actually have been here already; no calling before hand to schedule a time, they just call and say they are at the gate. Like everyone sits around they're house all day waiting...
