Wet ADSL

You can always Rewire your telephone connection inside your house by Taking out the Tellephone cable, and install Cat5e.(only 2 wires is needed)
Sounds to me like you get "cross Talk" on your line. Twisted cat5e should fix it.

My problem with weather affecting my ADSL was wind.
There was a loose connection 4 poles from my house which was causing my synch to drop.
Telkom did fix it for me rather quickly too.

I was told a few times by Technicians, (before Telkom screwed me over royally with my ADSL), that rainy weather could often cause certain vital parts of the line to become wet. Often when it dries up the issue goes away, but you can sometimes get a Technician to fix the problem properly by sealing it against water.

A loose connection could also be an issue. It can flare up in stormy weather due to the wind. Then like someone else also mentioned, the static in the air from thunderstorms can cause problems.

Also I read someone leaves their modem plugged in even during heavy lightning. All I can say is - Maaaan you are lucky!! I have lost 3 modems to lightning.

Wet ADSL will result in an unstable service, not to mention the packets will be drowning, so you are an accomplice to MURDER

/queue Murder She Wrote Theme

I suggest using a Wireless service, to prevent any further Packet Genocide.

dude on the weekend in question there was also a huge sunstorm that hit us with radiation day and night. it messed up communications all over the show.

I definitely think rain impacts on our adsl lines. When it was raining or a storm brewing in my last neighbourhood the internetz went mad. Logged a call with Telkom and was advised by the rep that inclement weather could have an impact on adsl performance.

Its mostly the static from lightning which affects the lines, but if you got an open joint somewhere which wasnt insulated it would be affected by the rain giving you problems.

Sometimes if the line goes from the stormwater pipes the sudden inflow of water will affect the lines. So you have to hope your line doesnt go through a stormwater pipe but rather overhead or in sewers.

I have had a similar problem since October 2010, yes, 2010... and Telkom techies are absolutely unable to find a fault in 900m of cable... i have opened in excess of 30 calls about this issue and still the geniuses there can't find the problem...

Their latest excuse is that my then, 27 hour old router was the problem... yet they get the same line sync issue with their own router...
