What 3D Graphics Cards Have You Owned?

I realise this may be a very long list for the compulsive upgraders but I thought it might be interesting to share what graphics cards we have owned and maybe make a comment or too regarding our favourite or most hated cards.

So here's my list of cards:

1) Nvidia Geforce 64MB MX440 (didn't realise how rubbish a card this was since I was a newby) - 2003
2) Nvidia Geforce 256MB 6600 - 2005
3) Nvidia Geforce 256MB 6800 Ultra (borrowed from a friend)
4) Ati Radeon 512MB X1900 (borrowed from a friend, first PCI-Express Card)
5) AMD 1GB HD4890 (briefly borrowed from a friend) - 2009
6) AMD 1GB HD5870 (My first bought card since the Geforce 6600 - absolute beast and wonder of a card, got this in 2009 and it lasted me a good many years)
7) AMD 2GB HD5870 (swapped my 1GB 5870 with a friend) - early 2015
8) AMD 4GB R290 (bought 2nd hand from a friend) - Dec 2015

As you can see, in my penniless student years I relied a great deal on my friend's old spare parts and that we all went over to the red side over time. Most of the time I was on the low end and was usually playing on low-med settings while my friends gamed on high. I think that was why the HD5870 blew me away, at the time I got it, it was one of the most powerful single core cards on the market. Given the cost of the top range cards these days I don't think I'll be doing that again soon.

Too many, but I have had :

- S3 Trio64
- S3 ViRGE
- ATi All-in-Wonder Pro
- 3Dfx Voodoo2
- Riva TNT
- Riva TNT2
- SiS 360 (Xabre 400)
- ATi Radeon RV100
- nVidia 8800GT
- nVidia 750
- nVidia GTX980

List is kinda chronological, as at some points I had 2 PCs for "work" and "play"

From memory, it is something as follows:

Riva TNT 8MB
Riva TNT2 16MB
Voodoo 5 32MB
nVidia GeForce 64MB
GeForce 4 Ti 128MB
ATI Rage (with TV tuner) 128MB
ATI 9800XT either 256 or 512MB
ATI Radeon X1900 (mac pro) 1GB
Whatever my macbook pro had
GeForce 570M in my laptop (still chugging along) 1.5GB
RadeonR9 290X 3GB (still chugging) - was crossfire'd but I sold one of the cards off

I'm sure I'm probably forgetting one or two...

I tend to go for big jumps, stretching every last bit out of my cards untill they die.

Riva TNT2 M64 (my first "gaming" card, even though it was kak. Dad bought it new for the home PC)
Geforce 2 MX 440 (started playing "3d" games on my own PC. Bought 2nd hand from friend. Was a "better than nothing" card )
Geforece FX 5900XT (Excellent value for money and blew everything else out the water at it's price point. It eventually died on me)
Quatro FX1400Go (Was without a PC for a few years so played games on the work's Dell Precision M80 laptop)
Quadro FX 1600M (same as above, HP Compaq 8710 laptop)
Geforce 465 (first mid-to-high end card. Most expensive PC part I ever bought at the time)
GeForce 970 (current the most expensive PC part I ever bought, and a beast)

Funny that I remember all the cards I've owned.

GeForce 3 Ti200 (Had to compromise graphics for performance)
Radeon 9600 (Had to compromise graphics for performance)
Geforce 7600 gt (Had to compromise graphics for performance)
Geforce 8800GT (Crank that shit up!)
Radeon HD 5770 (Had to compromise graphics for performance)
Radeon HD 7850 (Some setting on high)
Geforce GTX 970 (Crank that shit up!)

As you can see my only brand allegiance is price to performance. :D

I am second hand. Except for my first GPU which my dad bought for me, everything else is second hand GPU's.

7) Sapphire ATI HD4890 - Served me well
8) nVidia GeForce GTX 560 - Such loud fans

I asked my brother to help me out, he's older and should remember the older cards better.

You might notice a trend in the list below :D

- Trident GPU (piece of shit, can't remember what model)
- 3dfx Voodoo 2
- Geforce MX440

These were the GPU's we had while my brother and I still shared a gaming PC. After this he got a new PC and I had the old one, which was obviously replaced at a later stage :)

- Geforce FX 5600
- Geforce 6600
- Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB
- Geforce GTX275
- Geforce GTX570
- Geforce GTX670
- Geforce GTX970
- Geforce GTX980

I really can't remember some of them. These are the ones that stood out for me. I really haven't had many actually, I buy the best I can afford and then stick with them as long as possible.

Voodoo 2
Riva TNT2
GeForce 2
GeForce 8800 GTS
GeForce GTS 250 (this one is still in my GF's computer)
GeForce GTX 670 SLI (current)

There were a couple of ATI cards somewhere in between, but I have absolutely no idea what they were called, I just remember that I hated them.

Like MetalSoup, I can't remember all of them.

Riva TNT
ATI 9250
Geforce 6600 GT
Geforce 9800 GTX+
ATI HD5850
Radeon R9280X (currently in my wife's machine)
Geforce GTX 980 Ti (current)

Not the Creative 3D Blaster? They came in Voodoo2 and TNT2 variants if I recall correctly. My Voodoo2 and TNT2 were Creative 3D Blaster branded.

It was around the same era but not 3dfx based.
Actually think it was just before or just as the voodoo cards came out.
It was a 4meg card.

yes, that was the Rendition Vérité V1000 based Creative 3D blaster PCI. If I recall correctly that card was fast, but was compatible with only a handful of titles of the time.

Yea pretty much, When I got it Quake was still popular, actually worked with Half Life and made it prettier and faster as well, also made Quake2 pretty but I ended up with a banshee soon after that came out.

My dad had the creative card in a work machine for many years, I ended up getting it back but have thrown it away years ago.

I think it was like Decent 2, Quake and Quake 2 that had native support for that chipset (hence the original HL having support)

I played Carmageddon (in dos) and Dungeon Keeper on it as well, also Age of Empires and I am quite sure several others but yea it got frustrating pretty quickly.

Laptop: Mobility Radeon 9600
Laptop: GeForce Go 9600 GT
