What age group should run our country?

The current government has our expectations set pretty low, so any change will be welcomed :p

I think that age in politics should be an important barrier but not for the direct binary equivalent, but rather for the real consideration . Whereby the primary expectation is one of experience and a good service record; and age is simply a natural consequence of that.

Right now I don't think the issue is of government being too old, thus they are unable to see beyond past injustices (injustices which still exist mind you and have yet to be realistically redressed; but that's another topic entirely). The issue is that there is very little incentive for the upper echelons to want to change things in a way that doesn't directly benefit them, (usually monetarily), because they have an effective political monopoly.

When the day does come when their monopoly is broken; the people who will be left to pick up the pieces of the fractured state will have to be people whom are able to channel the spirit of a collective yearning of the people for a better future. Irrespective of age (or incidentally race/gender). Thus the people whom can best channel those ideals are best suited to run the country.

I think the election system should be revamped IMO.
When you vote you get 3 ballots, Page 1 you vote for an individual to become the president, Page 2 is where you vote for a political party to hold seats in parliment, page 3 is for your provincial seats.

With all the politics, it made me wonder, would the country be any different if run by lets say 20-27 year olds who didn't experience the full brunt of a broken country?
Do you think (with experience or teaching) that they would be able to turn the country around without all this crud about race?

People with maturity and degrees should run our country

First, did you know out founding father were not much older than the average age of 23? Pretty interesting huh? But I think there should be a mix, most times you get more wise as you get older, but political agendas can do bad things to people character.

Firstly the way the goverment is should be looked at. We shouldn't be serving the government they goverment should be here to make our lives a lot smoother.

thats never gonna happen because there is political agendas..lol As long as there is competition among politicians, that will not happen.

It's not an issue of age, rather an issue of qualifications and/or experience. The country needs to be run like an enterprise with the president as CEO

With the exclusion of yearly bonuses for members of the board right "whistling:

My two cents -

It all has to come down to the voters and our expectations of our leaders. We as a people (South Africans) need to hold our leaders up to the highest of ideals and hold them accountable for their actions.

They need to understand that they have no power and that the power resides in the voters and their positions and stature can be removed with just the slightest indescretion.

The voters need to stop voting with emotion, take a step back and ask what is best for the country as a whole, what ideals do i want in a leader, what measure of integrity should the elected officials have? once they know the type of people they want running the country, well that's when it gets difficult because thats when the actual search begins.

but a good start is by getting rid of those leaders that have failed us in the past - They are running our country and we cannot afford to give second chances or let things slide anymore
