To add, sycogrim: try Tales of Vesperia if you have an Xbox (PS3 version soon too). It's like FF, but no random encounters - you can see the mobs on the field screen and run around them if you wish. Combat is also real time and arcadey, boatloads of fun.

Gah! There are muuuch better options out there (unless you have already tried them all). That game is amazingly below standard, but I guess not totally junk.

I for one am not as eloquent or subtle as this guy.

The game is utter trash and plays like shit. I would have grabbed Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata or Tales of Vesperia for that matter. Much better titles.

Haha! Well you said pretty much what I was thinking. I just prefer not to step on peoples toes as often as I can.

In order of greatness:

Tales of Vesperia (real time battles)
Star Ocean 4 (real time battles)
Lost Odyssey (oldschool turned based)
Tie with Eternal Sonata (real time battles) and Blue Dragon (oldschool turn based)
