What are you reading right now?

Busy with:

The-Gray-Man.jpg

It's about an ex-CIA assassin who's latest kill pisses off some really powerful people. He races across Europe while fending of goon squads from all over the world (including good ol' South Africans). I just checked that they sold off movie rights to the series. If the movie is anything like the book it'll be like (but way better than) the Bourne movies

Rereading The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Finished the last (14th book) a while back, and realised I can't really remember all the details through the series. So I am going to read it all again, currently about halfway through book 1.

I have to question your sanity :p:wtf:... I love me some Wheel of Time, but goodness, our relationship was a tortured one... Honeymoon phase with the 1st 6 books, followed by routine and some issues arising through books 7 and 8, then the "Are you really the one for me" phase with Book 9, which led to the "You're smothering me, and I can't stand your face" phase with Book 10. This was followed by the "I remember why I like you" phase with book 11, and the final "You're my soulmate, take me now" phase through books 12 - 14.

Tortured as f**k!!!

That's a lot of re-reading. It took me years to get through it the first time, although most of that time was spent waiting for the next book to be written.

I actually read the through the series in under 2 years starting in January last year (I have to question my own sanity now ). I'm pretty sure I want nothing to do with that series for a long long while (I love it to death but it was almost the death of me... Looking at you, Crossroads of Twilight).

I recently discovered ePub Reader for android and have since been doing quite a bit of reading at work whenever I get the chance. Got several H Wells and Jules Verne books, but only managed to read Wells' The Time Machine - short story, but intriguing.

Started this week with The Twelfth Imam from JC Rosenberg on recommendation from my mother-in-law. Good book. Nice suspense, spy, CIA, type of story.

I really suggest you get yourself Mantano Reader Lite for Android (the free version), or even FB Reader. Those are by far the better free eBook readers available on Android.

Now reading Dr. Sleep by Stephen King

Hope you read the Shining. Its that much more awesome if you have ^_^

I just finished IT (again), and now have the option of my recently purchased Cujo, or the 1st Darktower book (both by Mr King). Anyone wanna recommend me one or the other?

I liked the Dark Tower books. I read most of King's books

I only very recently got my sister to actually read (and then obviously enjoy) his stuff, despite the fact she has a master in english...very sad i know. But even though she loved IT and misery and even the Dark half, she warned me before lending me this (saying she didnt find it all that good), which is why I'm asking. I hear the SERIES is absolutely brilliant, and while still "King" its obviously not horror themed. I just got rather cautious as to me if book nr1 isnt great, I don't see the point (Pratchett being the exception that PROVES the rule...I think we can all happily forget about Color of Magic hehe).

Its late...or early. maybe i should just pick one and read and stop drabbing on....or maybe I should become a writer!

The first book is quite difficult to get into. It took me 2 attempts before I could finish it. Was totally worth it. Love the series. Not finished yet, got sidetracked with other books along the way. I'd recommend starting the first book. Start the series already.

Started 1st book last night. Only then did I realise its his "revised/improved" edition, where he went back and made it less "iffy" after finally finishing the series. Maybe that'll ease me into the series, as he intends to do by improving it. hopefully he hasnt butchered it, but I have faith in his abilities not to. So far it's certainly not a DIFFICULT read :)

No, the changes he made is good. He fixed some errors like giving Roland the wrong age, also several smaller fixes that no normal human being even realized was 'wrong'. Although I suppose when you read the whole series cover to cover in a week and repeat the exercise a few times you might start to pick up the mistakes made in the first book. Save yourself the trouble and read what he changed when you finish the book - be warned though, reading the changes can contain spoilers...

Dark tower...got 2 or 3 of them (first ones) that I don't need. Not my style. If anyone wants them PM me and maybe we can arrange something.

Recently picked up a good trick for long series / books. After each chapter write down a 1 or 2 sentence summary of the main plot events. That way if you stop halfway through and want to pick it up again 2 months later you can revise in 5 mins and smoothly continue.

A lot of King's books are linked to Dark Tower series. A new Dark Tower book is also out. The wind through the keyhole

I thought he finished the series quite a while ago?

That's cool about the links, I have noticed some links with Derry and such, like Mike the librarian etc...kinda cool to have one semi consistent universe, it's also why I like Terry Pratchett so much. Each book can stand on its own as a good read, but as part of a bigger picture, its even better :D
