What case to get?

Good afternoon to all,

My birthday is coming up and i want to get me a new case for my gaming pc as my current one has been damaged by monkeys (real ones, living in amanzimtoti where there is roving troops or is it now troupes? Anyway, i am a dutchman so forgive the english spelling. I do speak the engrish tale vey deliciously :p.)

Now i would love to get a *white* full tower or largish mid. My budget is between R1500 and R2000 (as close as possible to R1500 would be advantageous.

My choices which i cannot decide on is:

Coolermaster Stryker
Corsair graphite 600t
Nzxt phantom 630 (cannot find in SA as yet)
Bitfenix colossus

Now the next two is not white but they are grabbing my attention somewhat:

Thermaltake chaser mk1
Coolermaster haf x
I would love go hear what you think or maybe offer up some other i might not have listed?

From your list, I prefer the corsair 600T.
My friend has got one and it fits his cooling kit inside. It's a very spacious mid tower.

They are both mid towers, but looks rather spacious. For full tower:

Might I suggest the 400R and 500R from Corsair, I have the 400R and love it to bits, its similar to the 600T but it's cheaper and looks better IMO. However I love the corsair brand so I would suggest anything from them but the 400R fits great into a budget and has plenty to offer. Plus the fan controller on the 600 is a little finikky so I would go down to the 400/500 and then get a fan controller like I did.

What Form Factor is your MB?

If it is Micro-ATX have a look at the 350D from Corsair. It is an amazing case... I am amazed by it (and I feel in love with the look).

If it is ATX then I would have to say
Cooler Master HAF XM or Corsair 500R (600T is nice but there is something about the 500R that just gripes me).

If I was to use the full R2000 then the CM Stryker or Obsidian 800D all the way
 
I presume you don't move your pc around a lot then as the haf series are pretty heavy.

My personal favourite is the Coolermaster CM 690 ii series, which as far as I remember come in white as well

computer acting very slow here so will pull up the link soon or just check on coolermaster web for info.

Probably because they get overwhelmed by the dozens of differing opinions given to them. Whereas before OP had six options, now he has 12.

You're completely right Wesley... Thanks for all the input so far guys.. That CM690 does look VERY sexy.

It's just unbelievable what the R/$ fluctuation will do to hardware prices - kept my eye on eye on a Stryker at a online retailer. The price in the last two months went from R1800 to R2000 and is sitting pretty now at almost R2300. Sheesh...
 
I think that out of the choices you had there, the Phantom 630 would be the best-looking pick, but not even Evetech knows when they're getting stock. If its a full tower you want, I'd personally look at the Switch 810. Its bigger internally than some of the other options and a lot cleaner and versatile, too.

The Colossus you're looking at is also a nice option, but Bitfenix is phasing them out for a new design apparently coming later this year. The Shinobi XL is the alternative option and has the same flat design that I prefer out of my chassis, but it's more for water-cooling setups than anything else. You're also in the price range to afford a Lian Li chassis as well, but the designs they've been coming up with this year aren't really appealing.
 
Thanks wesley. I went to look at the phantom 630 and it looks awesome. But, as you rightly said I cannot find anyon that has any stock in ZA. I went today to matrix here in Toti, saw an all white CM690 which also looked very nice.

I want something different, something a bit garish maybe, and just a big bad-ass case. The new aerocool strike x st looks good, but looks cheap (fan controls look VERY plasticky). My other 'problem' which I have is my cpu cooler which i love (and have fitted) my thermaltake macho hr02. It is quite a bit big and to find something to fit it snugly and show it off takes some doing. I was very lucky with my zalman that the case's is built out and houses the cooler nicely.

Have you chosen and gotten a case yet?
I still say the CM 690 but thats just my opinion, which is usually golden

@simon - i looked at the cm690 and i must say it looks very classy and awesomly built but it's just not me...

@joker - please don't tempt me further... ;) i just want to roll it past my 'minister of finances' and will then get back to you definitely!!

What do you guys think of the corsair carbide 540 air? Found only two shops in ZA that has it yet....

It's a cube case so personally I don't like it. When I go to lans I like to have the case in between me and the person next to me to act as a barrier, I get people trying to peek on my screen to see where my base / guy is and having a case in the way stops that more.
I like the case that Joker has but according to you you want it in white though?
 
sorry about my posting late.... I never even looked at the Obsidian because of budget reasons. I know it's dark... very dark... :cool:

I have talked to Joker and I will be buying it from him! Kudos to the Joker and to everybody that contributed to this thread! +1's all around!!
 
Look what I received today! Too bad I can only open and use it on the 15th Of September due to my wife being a stickler for birthdays... :cry:

Thank your for all the congrats guys!!

I sure am going to enjoy building it... salivating already.

Now... there is space for 3 x 140mm and 4 x 120mm fans - what case fans to put in there?
