What do you think of the MyBroadband forums?

Yeah I think that maybe it's just the way that you write that makes you seem rude. If you were just being friendly in your way then that's alright. Well then I'm sorry for calling you a jerk. It just really felt that way.

I treat everyone the same...at MyBB, my friends, colleagues...and family. I like joking around and some people take it the wrong way.

You will know when I am rude.

I will just warn everyone here not to enter TK in MyBB without wearing an asbestos suit...things really get HOT in there.

Asbestos is highly toxic. One could hypothesis that, due to the high asbestos content in the thread which, was offset buy the wearing of the suits, that the community there became the architects of their own destruction. Thankfully these days the suits are made from a chemically processed and compounded aluminium.

Back on topic, I left MyBB ages ago due to the sheer amount of "shit posting" and debauchery that occurs there. As stated prior, if you are not well known or popular then you will not be well received. Sometimes I think that 4chan and GAF are more friendly places.

MetalSoup That's so true. Most members there aren't very friendly. Hardly ever go there these days.
Also religion it's like a religion war there. I'm not a hardcore gamer like most peeps here but I still prefer this forum over mybb!

I ventured into TK there once and didn't like it at all. I even attempted some posts in PD, but never ventured into CA.

Still, my activity on MyBB was telling - I have more than double the amount of posts there than I have here. Most of them were racked up in the Software & Web Development subforum though...

Ah, the heyday of my "upfront disclaimer" :p

I only have 164 posts there, and I've been a member for over 10 years.

i used to post regularly there but then i found this place and got stuck here.... now i just go there if i need info or advice(to check if someone else had a similar issue and/or etc)

I post on both, with different posting styles - much more likely to come down hard on someone mybb side. Perhaps that points to a personality flaw?...not sure.

mybb crowd is a lot more aggressive on the whole though & to some extent the article writers go out of their way to keep that alive with controversial news articles that have a provocative (racial & political) slant to them. Meanwhile on mygaming the worst you get is people arguing about which console is the best (neither - PC master race!). That to me is the main difference in vibe & also why I (mistakenly) panicked about this thing.

Mygaming is too quiet for my liking though plus there are some really sharp okes mybb side...if you've been there long enough to know who is legit and what their area of expertise is & are willing to dig through a lot of BS.

Most of them were racked up in the Software & Web Development subforum though...
You know you can make a bookmark to search *just* the software subforum right? (or any other combination of subforums)

Nah, the atmosphere isn't the same anymore. I guess the toxicity everyone mentions here has seeped through to that subforum as well. It's littered with know-it-all BBD employees.

I find StackOverflow much more rewarding these days - it gives you a great internationally recognised portfolio of knowledge.w

Almost left here when Eugene was around, but now that Metalsoup is here I changed my mind :D.

Mybb is alright if you stay away from certain sections like PD or TK.

There are a lot of opinionated people there who think their opinion is the only one which is right.

A lot of us here are most likely originally from the MyBroadband forum, and many of us left that site behind completely when we signed up here. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on that forum is these days.

Going back there about once or twice a year I just find that it becomes more and more toxic towards people who aren't popular regulars there, that's if they don't all just ignore you completely.

While it has happened, it's important that other members detect this and either self-moderate or report it to the moderators. It has crept in and rpm is aware of it as are the moderators.

Also in this thread are references to a clique. That is not true, as there is not A clique but many of them... The interesting dynamic is to see them opposing each other in (for example) a News thread but then splinter up and agree with each other in the Football thread !!

I guess that's a problem when a forum just becomes too big.

That is true and why rpm (mybb and myg site owner) has appointed more moderators to assist with it. Even now it is impossible to expect moderators to read every post, hence it becomes important that members assist.

Do you think the same might eventually happen to MyGaming? I suppose it helps that we all have something important in common: we all love gaming.

I doubt that it will happen on MyGaming as there is a common thread here and that is Gaming. MyBB is very diverse and virtually any topic you can think of is covered there.

The ideal would be for the two forums to co-exist, with each having its own identity.

I think over here we are sometimes a bit clicky. At least that's how my wife describes it and that's why she doesn't want to post here. People see us as the Elitists as we've seen before. Which is strange since to me it feels like we are friendly to new people.

I wouldn't say clicky is the right term. Some regulars can be a bit unwelcoming and unnecessarily hard on new members, which tends to make it feel like it is a very unfriendly place. It takes a while for any person to adjust in a new social situation, so I think it would be very beneficial for members to keep in mind that they shouldn't be overly hard on new members. I registered a new profile a couple of months ago as something of an experiment and posted on it a bit. Despite not actually doing anything wrong, I ended up getting a lot of flak for simple things simply because I was a new a member. My conclusion at the time was that if that was my first experience of the forum, I would not have stuck around. Over the years I've also told a number of people from other forums to register here, many of whom echoed similar sentiments and none of whom I think still post. Cynikill was one of them, if I remember correctly.

I think it's just a slight attitude shift that needs to happen. Even when a new member is being a dick, I think it's going too far for the entire community to jump on their back and quite literally tell them to fuck off. It might just be that the person is not used to interacting on a social platform of this type and might need time to adjust, after which they could become valuable posters.

I only really browse there for adsl info etc, nothing else really, just find it is a hard forum to get started on. Here it felt really easy.

I suppose we have the regulars here, but it seems way less toxic here, I don't think we chase people away.

I find MyBB very useful. These days I don't really use the forums unless I need something. Then I get in, post my question, thank people for their advice and get out. I don't hang around and "mingle" anymore. Used to post opinions on topics relating to Motoring, Software Development and Banking, but I don't really monitor the forums anymore unless I'm searching for something specific.

Otherwise I'm mostly here. Not that active when it comes to posting these days due to time constraints, but I still read the MyG forums daily.
