Hi.
This is my pc
Motherboard- ASUS P5VD2
RAM-1.5GB
CPU- Intel Celeron 2.0 3.06 GHz one core
Graphics card-Asus geforce 7100gt 256 mb
Software-Windows 7 32bit
I know that this will not run any normal game but if I change the graphics card to a MSI R6670-MD1GD3V2 or Geforce
9800 GTX+ that will allow me to play something like GTA 4?

Yeah ram isn't that expensive these days..... 8 gB should do you good
As for the cpu... Might need upgrading to if you want to play gta4 without framerate issues
That gfx card should be fine

You will need a new cpu, ram and gpu, problem is because you need a new cpu you will need to get a new motherboard but on the bright side it will allow you to get the DDR3 ram which is quicker and cheaper. 9800 and 6670 are all second hand, the price difference between mid and entry level second hand cards is very small so look at something of older generation but mid range, so I would suggest something like a 5770 / 460 as you can find them for rather cheap and will be a good start till you upgrade down the line.

Did you even check the motherboard spec's? His mobo uses DDR2 ram which is not cheap, 2 gigs cost around R250, recommended would be 4gb so it would not be cheap.

No I didn't... But it is cheap compared to the cpu and gpu

And if I installed only the 9800GTX+ I would get something better out of my pc?

In all honesty, rather use the money you are going to spend on a 9800GTX+ and save it up to buy a better PC. You are going to struggle to play most games with those specs.

Your pc would improve but the 9800 already is pretty old so would need to be upgraded sooner anyway. The ram and cpu would bottleneck the gpu but anything with a bit of oomph ie, Intel G620 (+/- R600 cpu) and up and the gpu will be the one bottlenecking it.
If you are getting the gpu for R250 or less then do it, if not then frankly its a waste of cash.

Cheap compared to cpu and gpu's overall

Missing the point? It's not going to let them play many games if any! The sub minimum is a dual core these days. Wasting money buying a GPU for that PC. Rather save and get a new system.

Yeah of course he's going to have to upgrade everything

The guy doesn't know what he's talking about...you are not going to spend more money on ram than on cpu or gpu lol...ofc its cheap compared to cpu and gpu prices

This

Just a warning expect a jackie chan meme in reply ;)

Oh and btw glordit when did I ever mention a gpu upgrade? I was talking about the price of ram compared to cpu's and gpu's not upgrading the fsuking gpu... Then you came up with upgrading to a new system.... And I agreed that it is the best option for him... And you don't understand?

The reality is he's going to have to upgrade everything. Yes he will gain some performance out of getting a 9800GTX+ but no it will not be enough to run GTA4.

What will happen is the GPU will sit there calmly waiting for things to do while the CPU continues to struggle in agony. Save your money and look at upgrading everything at once or else you'll literally just throw money away for no reason.

I dunno what the whole argument about the pricing is but this is how it looks for the average person:

GPU > CPU > Mboard > Ram

This was true for me.

1) I got a 670oc and it was ok, but not fast.
2) I got an SSD and it was better, but still not fast.
3) Finally upgraded everything else and then it was fast.

Why? because an old mobo can do just that much...

Here's a benchmark.

E8400 dual core. 4gb ddr3-1333. 4850x2 2gb.

At stockspeeds gta4 runs on high settings 1920x1080 at about 30-35 fps

Gta 4 runs SO horribly try a other game... I get around 35-45 fps with my rig
