What happened to epic game theme tunes?

I miss games with CD Soundtracks.

Half-Life, Quake, Quake 2, Carmageddon etc etc.

Soz I know it's nothing to do with theme tunes, but it got me thinking about it.

Serious Sam also has an awesome theme, but it's hard to say "where have they gone?" since not all games, now or then, have particularly memorable sound tracks. It just depends on the game and the music itself.

Was thinking exactly the same thing when I downloaded Doom onto my phone the other day. As soon as the theme song started playing, I couldn't help but headbang just a little (even though its an ancient MIDI track) =) . It seems like at a certain point in time someone declared that there would be no more game theme songs.

I miss allot of theme tunes. Ut99,doom,duke3d and even earthworm jim1 and 2.

Super Mario, Goonies, Adventure Island. All of those had very memorable tunes. You really don't see much of that anymore. Most games these days have fairly generic soundtracks.

Goonies those were good days.

I got the CD Sound track for Red Alert, Hell march is okay, it seemed much better in the day. Best soundtrack ever was Full Throttles, the Gone Jackals rocked.

I've got the whole sound tracks of C&C1 to Renegade, Prince of Persia SoT trilogy, Starcraft 1, Serious Sam 1st/2nd encounter and Assassins Creed.
