What is Nintendo playing at?

Don't personally own one but I feel sorry for anyone that does. Consoles are not cheap so I would have some serious regret if I was an early purchaser of the Wii U. I don't see them being able to turn this around.

I don't feel sorry for people who bought a wii u,they got great games to play. Most Nintendo fans buy the console for Mario and Zelda anyway the person I feel sorry for is the hardware designer because he is getting raked over the coals now.

It like Jim said, what they need is a strong library not a launch library. They just never got the releases on the shelfs that justify the purchase of the new console. O well let's hope they get some more games soon because I really like the console as a concept.

The games that are being released for this console is amazing, but not amazing enough to sell many millions of consoles. They need a price drop and an influx of more games that people want to play.

(Still, I wouldn't mind having one).

Should Wii U owners be concerned by Nintendo’s lacklustre console sales?

Definitely. If developers don't consider the platform to have a large enough audience they will most likely abandon development for it or not even consider developing for the Wii U at all. And what good is a console if there are little to no games to play on it?

Yeah, I see what you're saying. The third party titles aren't particularly strong on the WiiU. Having said that, their top sellers usually are first party titles.

I'm on the lookout for one as I think the first party games can be fun. But other than that I can't justify paying the asking price for a new one. Also think it can be a fun console for me and the family. That way they leave my playstations alone "whistling:

I have owned mine since August when I was lucky enough to grab one when they went on sale for R999 at Toys-R-Us.

I dont care what anyone says, If i can could get a Wii U for R999.00 I would get it just to play Mario again... And if its struggling this much im sure picking one up for that price isnt that far fetched especially if its already happened...

But paying $299.00 for the console... Thats never going to happen...

Hope this means the prices are going to drop since I can't justify paying R4k for one game which is Pokemon Smash bros which comes out soon.

If only I had a Toysrus here I would have got it when it was 2k and even when it was R1k so irritating that we haven't got one here.

If I could of got a Wii-U for R999 I would of been all over that, just for the Nintendo games alone and Zombi-u.
The new Monolith soft game looks really cool.

I love jrpg

nintendo should just ditch the tablet controller, make the wiiu pro controller the standard one, thus reducing costs and drop the price by $100 im sure the wii u tablet controller cost that much to make

About that controller, can someone clarify if it basically does the same thing the PS Vita does with the PS4?

Nintendo's slow downfall started with the Gamecube. Wether intentional or not, most people who played on it were kids and girls.
Most of the games available for Gamecube were cutesy, colourful and all ages. Still a lot of great games just not what the majority of gamers were after.
Nintendo continued there 'goody two shoes' approach to gaming with the Wii. Sure there is the odd shoot everything, violent games that tweens are after but its not Nintendo's focus.

When you think Nintendo you think 'for kids'. The gaming majority of 25 - 30 year olds do not want to play kids games.

Its probably a very dumbed down version of the PS Vita one in all aspects :p.

I love my gamecube pokemon games but when wii came it did not bring back nice games like them just glad I can play gamecube games on my Wii which I mostly use it for as I did not have access to a gamecube.

I found this on Reddit about this exact topic...seems rather fitting to put it here.

EDIT: Right Click on the image and say 'Open image in New Tab', which makes it easier to read the text. Sorry for the massive size, I don't think that there is a way to resize it.

I just saw the following on IGN:

IGN said:
Nintendo Has no Plans For 'Mario on Smartphones'
"The spread of smart devices does not spell the end of game consoles."

Nintendo has emphasised its continuing commitment to games consoles despite Friday's losses, and rejected calls to release titles on smartphones.

In a press conference on Friday (translated by The Wall Street Journal), president Satoru Iwata explained that any move to release key franchises such as Mario, Zelda or Pokemon on smartphones would likely have a negative impact on 3DS sales.

"The spread of smart devices does not spell the end of game consoles. It's not that simple," he said. "It doesn't mean that we should put Mario on smartphones."

While Nintendo is currently refusing to release titles on smartphones and the like, The Pokemon Company has previously experimented with releasing products on different platforms; last year a Pokedex app was launched in Japan.

On Friday, Nintendo announced that both Wii U and 3DS had failed to reach sales projections, forcing the company to significantly downgrade its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. Iwata apologised to investors but noted he will not be resigning, nor will he be making any major management changes in the near future.

Where do you stay exactly??
