What makes a gamer?

Most of the people in my generation like video games. I have alot of games on Xbox, I try to know nearly every upcoming game's release date, I usually know if a game is good or bad (judging by reviews) and I am a member of this website. I spend alot of time on internet reading about games. Am I a gamer? Tell me what you think it is to be a gamer.
 
Here's my take. A gamer plays and enjoys video games. He or she has some preferences as to what they play, they may or may not engage with other gamers online and in discussions. But there is no such thing as a gamer licence or certain criteria you have to fulfill. If you spend a significant amount of time with video games, and you enjoy them, then by all means, refer to yourself as 'gamer'.
 
The Ability the Bitch about tiny, trivial, otherwise inconsequential, things.
The Ability to write entire novels on the topic of which platform is better.

See ur not a game coz you cant provide me with an encyclopaedia worth of links and reference material to back of you opinion.

*Just a quick note I do NOT, nor will I ever, care which Platform is the best. And If I did I'll get my facts somewhere other that the ramblings on idiotic fanboys on forums.

When I even mention the words "game" or "Xbox" or refer to something I saw/did in a game its like she just hears Blah Blah Blah :/
 
Are the majority of your friends also gamers? Can you hold an entire conversation discussing something that happened whilst you were gaming, with somebody who wasn't there but understands?

That is how it is. When we go shopping I have to secretly plan routes through the mall so that we "coincidentally" happen to walk by BT and then after I have to endure 2 hours of Shoe shopping as punishment for buying a single game. That is to teach me what its like to endure my hobby...
 
I think if you enjoy games and you play a wide range of games you can call yourself a gamer. If you only play COD then I don't think it's fair to say' Ya, I'm a hectic gamer.' But that's just my opinion!
 
Definately a gamer since Atari ST, C64, PC and now XBOX. My kid of 3yrs is also a gamer, he started gaming on the iPhone at around 1, and now he loves racing on the PC, of all platforms. So if you like game, no love gaming, then you are a gamer, no matter what your age is.
 
i reckon its someone who is on gaming sites most of the day. is up to date with gaming news. cant go a day without talking about games, watching vids on games etc etc. and obviously plays games a hell of alot
 
gamer, from Atari Pong to ZxSpectrum and the list goes on! I blame my absent parents for my misspent youth, pity I can't blame them for any of the other misspent time after my formative years! That's all on me! :p
 
Well i think a gamer is more of a life style:P you follow the releases of games, its almost like a sports fan how they are anxious or eager for a sports game to come up and happen we gamers would be the same for a release of a game i think its like you just have a passion to play games its something just carved in you that it just calls to you...or im just crazy
