What Notebook make is best.

So I am looking at a HP, Dell, or Acer it is not for gaming just work. Looking for one that will last and will not give lots of problems.

I would recommend HP, very awesome service with regards to warranties and what not, been using mine for about 3 years now, all you need to do is when the warranty expires purchase an extended warranty which adds another 3 years or so, for like R1000

And when i had a problem with overheating they took 1 day to come in fix, they said my Keyboard was looking a bit warn and they replaced it for free as well :)

Yeah, I'd also choose HP from that list.

I've been using a Sony Vaio for the last couple of years, awesome little rigs if you can find them at less-than-extortionate prices.

The only make i trust is HP, been using them for a very very long time and im extremely happy with it. But there are quite a few branded makes and i guess each one has their own favourite or preferred make. For me it’s HP, and i won’t look anywhere else. For now ") hehe

I Hope Hp notebooks are nothing like their printers.

Okay, probably going to start a bit of a war here, but hey.

I wouldn't go with a DELL or HP.

Firstly, DELL
They are over priced and lately, there are not up to scratch with their supposed quality. For my work, I was going to get a DELL. After going onto the DELL website, 6/21 reviews gave the laptop 1 star (out of 5) with many complaining about numerous returns for repairs. And I know it might just be a bad series, but if DELL really cared, then they would pull the series, and replace all the effected laptops with a new version, etc to protect their rep.

Secondly, HP
How many of you are aware of the problem with Nvidia 8400/8600 chips? Well, HP had a problem with a lot of them over heating. I have a friend whose one over heated, but HP refused to do anything about it ( was out of the 1 year warranty by a few months) even though it was not a hardware failure due to my friends fault, but a general design failure. They hadn't attached a proper heat sink to the chip, but used the heat shield under the keyboard! Needless to say, the chip overheated and melted his mother board, but HP couldn't care less.

Basically, what I am saying is, there is no make that can be recommended. What I would rather do, is look at what features you want and then compile a list. Then search like crazy on google for reviews on those models and base your decision on those reviews.

Ok so basically choose some specific models and read reviews till my eyes bleed. So there is no thing like Nvidia vs ATI in the laptop world, where one is good performance, and the other is cheap?

Well Acer is cheap in my opinion but there customer service is very good.

HP & Toshiba is rock solid. Dell is also not bad.

Haven't tried (not planning to) LG, Samsung or any of those makes...

Actually, Apple is probably the best. Macbook > *.

+1. I've had numerous PCs over the ages but fell in geeky love with my first Macbook a couple years ago. If it weren't for their exorbitant prices and the low price I got my Vaio PC at I'd be rocking a Macbook Pro without a doubt.

Sadly the thread seems to only be for PCs though. Or is it?

Well,if you do get a notebook I would recommend HP's Compaq series - they're solid, reliable and durable. Ours has never blurescreened due to fault design etc, only us (driver conflicts, bad games). We have a very old one, the nx7300, but it has kept going for 5 years :D. I think the Compaq series are more business orientated, so maybe some other HP laptop.

I have used a HP 500 AMD Dual Core for quite a while as happy with it. Price is around R5k but there is a couple of specials every now and then...

I've had a lot of problems with my previous Acers , But I wasn't the only one luckily.

Got 2 HP Notebooks now and i've had them for just over a year and I'm more than happy.

So i'd recommend HP. But which ever brand you decide to go with , it never hurts to pay the extra R500-R1000 for the extended warranty :p

I'm Running HP Pavillion Series.
