What SSD are you using and how much did you pay?

So I'm getting my hands on a 120GIG Patriot Wildfire SSD next week.

Just wondering what you guys are running and what you paid for your SSD's.
Are you really stoked by the performance or were you expecting more?

Yeah made for some interesting reading, But I need to know what people are running now..Not what they ran 3 months ago.

It's a hard choice, I would love to get an SSD, just need to justify the extra expense. I will get one soon though...

Yeah the cost is huge, I'm getting the wildfire at a damn good price, that's the only reason im even considering it.

Why would someone change their hardware from 3 months ago?

Especially if they bought a SSD.

Well if your a hardware junky like me...Ive had 7 different cpu's this year, 9 different gfx cards and so on and so on...Also tech changes..I wanna know what their experience is with the newer ssd's.

That's a good SSD. 120GB is a very nice size, and you can definitely keep some games on there - just keep in mind you'll have to micro-manage your data sometimes. Like the other day I wanted to download a 70GB torrent, and ended up in a real poo-poo can cause I ran out of space on my drive, as I forgot to configure my downloader's temp directory.

If you have one of the Z68 motherboards, keep in mind that you can use Intel's Smart Response Technology. With that you can use a SSD (or part of it, up to 64GB) for caching purposes. This gives you SSD like speeds on commonly used applications automatically, after about one or two runs. So you split that drive in half for OS/caching. Useful if you hate micro-managing, but only applicable to applications you run regularly (at least every few weeks, depending on how much caching space you have)

Yeah my rigs all have Z68 boards, So that'll be quite a cool feature to use.
I might end up buying 2 of them and using one as my OS drive and the other as my gaming drive..Not sure though and it also depends what the 2nd wildfire would cost me.

Currently using a Corsair Force 3 240GB, but it's having issues with my Marvel controllers. Getting a OCZ 160GB Revodrive over the weekend.

ADATA S511 120GB MLC SATA 6Gb/s

Whilst it boots extremely quickly, other than that, it was a waste of money for me. I would still rather wait till the pricing drops. Also, faarking annoying habit of rebooting my PC randomly without warning and then resetting my bios HDD boot sequence.

The feedback im getting is mostly good :D

So the order will go ahead. I reckon I might buy another wildfire once I see how the 1st one runs.

Currently running a 90gb OCZ Vertex 2. Bought it beginning of the year. Think I paid R1500 then.

Personally, other than no moving parts and faster load times I think SSD is a waste of cash. Your games won't run any faster or better, they will just load faster :)

Well that's why I have been putting it off for so long...I'm only really taking the leap now because of the price im getting the ssd for.
If its a waste it'll be ok, but from what I have heard people that use them don't ever wanna go back to using normal drives.

That's reason enough to get it, is it not? :D

lol guess so, but loads times to me really don't mean all that much, especially not a R2000 faster load time :p

I would buy one at the drop of a hat. . . for the right price of course. Hopefully they will drop in price soon.
