What to do with old electronics?

Solitude

Mr. Nice Guy
I've got two CRT screens and a really old computer and other parts that's just taking space. How can I get rid of these things?

Surely other people must have this problem too or do all of you just hoard like I do? :)

I'd love to know too...have a garage full of old machines, and a box and a half of dead drives. When a clients machine packs up they usually don't repair, they just replace and dont want old machine back...so we tend to build up over time.

At one point we used to on occasion fill up a bakkie and take to this guy who rebuilds/fixes machines and then gives them to needy schools. But its become really difficult to get ahold of them lately.

you can donate it, recycle it or sell it to cash crusaders and get something out of it.

i just keep what i believe might have some value in the future. i still have a working IBM pentium 1 desktop Machine, that i probably wont get rid of, might have some value in the future, based on if you look at what old apple machines and next machines are selling for these days, also still have a working ps1 that i wont get rid of.

I donate it to the Alta Du Toit School, it's a school here for disabled people, young and old. They use old broken pc's to build working pc's for the kids to use. The bits that they cannot rescue they take apart and make into art to be sold to bring in money.

Donate, you'd be surprised at how happy NGOs are when you give them stuff that holds no value to you, but could make a world of difference to them. Couple of years ago we donated 100 odd old laptops (OLD, as in Netburst based Celeron laptops with deadish batteries), they all ended up at an ABET training center to train really disadvantaged people.

Mostly Hoard until someone asks around for parts :) then il give it to them for free. It's a mission to sell old stuff
