What was the best year for gaming?

While doing some research for another thread, I found myself interested in which year was the best for gaming. This year certainly is measuring up to be a cracker of a year. I feel last year was not a good year for gaming at all, though last year was the year that South Africa finally got the Xbox One, which made my day.

And that is another point to think about. Do you see a good year for gaming to be solely based on the games launched, or would things like consoles, hardware and other elements make a difference in your opinion.

My personal favourite year for gaming was 2011. It was the year that I really got back into gaming as a hobby, and a time where I actually started following gaming news and stories. I would say that this year is a very close second.

But my opinion of Best year for gaming would go to 2007. With Mass Effect, Crysis, COD MW1, GTA San Andreas, Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Unreal Tournament 3 and more, it surely set the gaming world alight.

1993 - The year Doom was released

followed closely by 1998 when Half-Life was released

Followed by 2004 aka the year of Half-Life 2

It was downhill from there

2015 is proving to have some strong contenders...

But before we see the end of this year.. 2009 is so far the best for me.
