What will happen to World of Warcraft?

This is a very very very sensitive subject to me and have had numerous debates and discussions when it comes to this.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

I have been playing this game since it has been released, was actually a child on holiday in France when it got released and bought it there. The good old days of Vanilla WoW.
When you had to grind for 3 weeks after hitting level 20 just to get 2 gold (can't remember exact amount) to buy a normal mount, or borrow from your friend who can barely spare that kind of gold at level 60.

You had to work hard at everything in the game, and if you had something to show off, it actually meant something. You had the skill, perseverance and put in the effort for it.
When you wanted to do a raid, you had to go to the instance itself, or have your friends summon you, There was none of the LFG things that summon you into a raid automatically.

So the game is getting easier and easier, with in game purchases allowing you to just buy a leveled character without actually leveling it. I thought that was the whole point and fun in WoW. Exploring and questing the vast land.

The subscriptions for WoW is dwindling year of year. At it's peak in 2010 there were 12 Million subscribers. And now seems to be less than 8 Million.
I feel that WoW should go back to it's routes and return the game to it's former glory.

I am sure that there are people here that will agree and even some who will disagree about what the game has become and where it is heading. What are your thoughts on what Blizzard should do?

We will have to wait and see what happens with Legion. I think the game has another 2 expansions before it really dies down. It will probably go F2P by then.

Btw, the lvl 40 was 100g and 1000g for the epic at 60. Took me 2 months to farm enough gold for the epic mount.

I loved the old Wow I only started on BC but when you got a character to max level you were proud of that char and then the real fun began getting into guilds organise strats etc for raids... now you can just go PUG the hardest content while eating and texting someone all at the same time its ridiculous

I started playing the other day, purely to get a cosmetic portrait in Hearthstone, and I cant believe its the game people have praised as the greatest MMO ever made... I find the game incredibly slow paced, and to be honest very boring... the quests are so pointless and so mundane... I think i need to get the character to lvl 20 and im struggling to keep going at lvl 7...

Maybe i just picked the wrong starting point? Went with Pandaria, but i was seriously disappointed... I would play through WOW just to carry on my story that so abruptly ended with Warcraft 3 TFT... As a huge fan of the universe, I was so excited when it first launched, but with SA internet back then there was no chance I could even attempt to play it... After all these years I cant help but wonder if my opinion would have been different had i picked it up back then...

My Favourite was always starting as Orc, Troll or even Tauren. The leveling now is much quicker and easier than it used to be.
The quests however all used to have cool story lines and made you travel lots. These days it is basically just go to one area, grind quests and then off to the next area. But yes, WoW was never known for being a fast paced games. The Arena and PVP can get much quicker, but the quests, leveling and exploring were designed to take in the view and enjoy it :)

I honestly think it's going to run for another 3-5 years and then Blizzard will end official support, but allow third-party servers to stay up. The game will probably continue to have a niche following for a decade or so.

Thing is, WoW's player numbers are trending downwards. And a trend only ends when it hits zero.

I really do believe blizzard can save this game if they just look at what made it a success and what they did to break that... but I doubt they will do that

I think they trying to get subs by doing the movie thing. I did feel like playing after watching the movie. Maybe the movies will be so successful that the game will die completely and they will just focus on their studio. BTW - I'm saving for a WoW server blade. It has been a dream of mine for a long time. I just got to get one.

Re: you being a child when WoW released means you must be quite young still. WoW released when I already worked for a couple of years, AFTER studying for 4 years.
