Mine came from a DnD campaign. Needed a name for a stodgy dwarf warrior. It kinda stuck.

Article is proper. The more cool and awesome your nick looks, the more people are actually giggling behind your back. Keep it simple and unqiue.

Yeah, like in the mafia. Like Tiny, or Vinny Two Fingers, or Mick the Brick etc.
Choosing your own handle makes it dumb and powerless. The best ones choose you.
 
so few people have unique nicknames, I have found very very few people (only on the interwebz) who share my nick, then I just Become TpexR :D
 
Likewise for me. Terak is not a very common nick.

I actually got it from the good old star wars series with the Ewoks :D.

The evil dude's name was King Terak :D

You forgot about names like xXxpoenasseboudexXxXxXeksxXxX

I personaly can't stand names with an underscore (_) in them, a dash (-) or a space is fine, just anything but an underscore.

And than theres those completely fscked clan tags.

Awesome article, very entertaining as always. Luckily I seem to be safe from any of those, except maybe the numbers (use wlad777 on PSN), but that is only because Wlad was unavailable/already taken. It should actually be w.l.a.d. since it stands for something though ...
 
I haven't EVER found anyone on the internet thats not me, however I have found some of my old nicks surfacing these days. I usually create my nicks from scratch
 
Heh. My screen name is how everyone I meet pronounces my real name, Misha...
But I totally prefer the newly-dubbed High School name "Fishslap". AmIcoolnow? :P
 
Mine goes back to college, the guys used to call me a dog :-(, so I checked up what it was in latin and Canis Lupus was too long for Quake and I did use Cannis for awhile, in fact I still do in some places. But then I found out Lupus was a disease too ;-) so it kind of stuck. Though I've been called Loopy, Lupiss etc... Sigh but hey it's also become a very common nickname.
