Howzit chaps,

So I'm looking for a good micro-management game to get. Now I LOVE micro-management, I really love it and I really want a game that embodies this. I play Total War games, and while I ADORE them there is just not enough micro-management :(. I did buy Hearts of Iron III but I couldn't get anywhere in that game because the tutorial sucked balls! So I didn't know what the hell I was doing :(... I have looked into Europa Universalis III but I don't know if it's any good, have any of you played it? I have recommendations for Victoria II but once again I haven't played it and am to scared to get either because there might not be a comprehensive tutorial... Are there any games you could recommend?

Thanks :)

Pretty much any RTS game by Relic. Homeworld 1/2, Company of Heroes, Dawn of war series. All of them need very intricate management of abilities, individual upgrades and manoeuvring.

A few other games I could list are Stronghold and EndWar. Stronghold needs lots of controll over fine details of your castle and Endwar kinda forces you to micro because you can only select one squad at a time.

Hey Raven,

I already own Stronghold and Dawn of War :). Isn't Company of Heroes just commanding troops? Not actually building and empire or actually managing a town or anything?

EndWar, heard of it. Didn't look very good...

hola hop 7 hosh!

try Tropico series, men of war series, ANNO series,

I just bought Tropico 3 so am looking forward to playing that :). And I do buy the Anno games :).

What I'm looking for is something where I can trade, get wealthy if I want to go to war... But I'm a very economic person, so I love games that have a very intricate trading system :).

Ai, Duke, paradox games are super complex. Apparently Arsenal of Democracy is more understandable. But I got pummeled by Germany anyway. :(

Anno 1701 is awesome for economy micro. There is warfare too, but its sort of a side issue & doesn't work particularly well.

Partician is also some serious economy micro. Gets repetitive fast though. :/

I'd also suggest looking at:

AI War.
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/8281/

Just started playing and *wow*. Impossibly large scale, thousands of units and 100s of unit types. Expect 20+ hr games (saves possible). Sorta similar to SupCom1 in fully zoomed out mode.

The AI feels very different to anything I've played before. Unpredictable & tricky because most of it is AI not hard coded. Like you sit there for 5 seconds think wtf is it doing, then understand and think "oh shit".

EDIT: Anno 2070? /Off to google that

A brudder tauld me you might want to have a lewk at Anno 2070 later this year.

File #bettr.

I cannot wait for Anno 2070!! It truly is gonna be great :)!!

Thank for that!! Looking at AI Wars right now :). Thanks for the run down of the other games I really appreciate it :).

I'm a big fan of the Men of War series. Really difficult spending points on the right units while micro managing your different squads.

I know its old, but if you haven`t played stronghold yet you should give it a try... the 1st one or crusader.

Not crusader extreme though... that game is insane.. play the others first

The last decent castle building game imo.

Starcraft 2 ? have you played that yet ?

Nope, haven't played it yet... Is it any good? I can't imagine a RTS having a lot of depth though...

Try Hearts Of Iron 2 instead of 3.

Better yet try HOI 2 - Arsenal of Democracy,

Hey mate, I'll look into it :). Why HoI2 instead of HoI3 though? They're both HoI games...

you could try Act of War Direct Action and it's expansion High Treason

I'll Google that, thanks :).

They're quite different games. HOI 2 actually has more micro management IIRC yet I found it easier to get into. Problem is the steep learning curve and unforgiving gameplay that requires plenty of patience but once you get into it it's bliss. One of those games you can't get out your head even when you're away from the PC there's so much micro management. It consumes you lol

I'm sure you thought of civilization/colonization. mentioning it just in case.
retro but still good: pharaoh, ceasar, poseidon etc.
and then there's the settlers series.... if you have lots of time and patience.

YES! And Emperor as well.

Now THAT is exactly the type of game I want!!

Have all of the Civs :), Civ IV Beyond the Swrod was my favourite Civ game :).

You know what, I remember those games hey! I wouldn't mind actually owning them again :D! But where would one find such old games?

YES! And Emperor as well.

Emperor was brilliant!!
