Whats the best gaming mouse?

If u have money to burn, I'd say go for the Logitech G9, most reliable lazer mouse I've ever had and Logitech's customer care service is extraordinary.

Otherwise, and I hear this from allot of people, the best all rounder mouse, for reliability, performance and comfort is the Logitech MX518.
I've never had one, but I've used them quite allot amazing stuff, just a little outdated :)

*Edit* Forgot about steelseries, they have some really decent stuff. I'm really impressed by the icari optical..

ok, couple things u need to consider before buying a new mouse..
what grip do u use to hold the mouse? palm style is with ur hand on top of the whole mouse using ur hand to move the mouse. Claw style u grip the mouse with ur pinkie and thumb..
What type of games do u play most.. FPS, RPG etc...
If ur a fps player u would need a mouse with high dpi and top of the line tracking.
RPG player would need a mouse with lotsa buttons on it (programmable) a high dpi wouldnt be needed here
My personal favourite is the Razer Deathadder, due to its shape (very comfy to use for long hours) high DPI and its infra red motion tracking which is pixel precise.. perfect for fps player
 
I mostly buy the Logitech Notebook mice for mobility, plus they are not bad at all when it comes to use and price. My last mouse's batteries lasted for well over 3-4 weeks, and I am a power user, I even gamed with it! It's the V400, 2.4Ghz, dual-laser engine mouse iirc. Barely use it anymore... Great piece of tech!

For gaming I used a Razer Copperhead before, until I wore it out (apparently my symptoms were classic of wear-and-tear - 5mil+ clicks is its 'expected' lifetime I was told at the time) and I replaced it with a Razer Lachesis.
I haven't been disappointed yet. It moves like a mutha... err. I mean, it moves very elegantly.
 
I have the MX518, and I must say that it took some abuse already but still works like a charm. Ask Maplassie, I'm NOT a passive gamer... :D

i have the razor lachesis and i love it no mater if you are right or left handed. it had a few problems (wouldnt turn on with windows and jumped a bit) but was fixed in resent updates. the last mouse i had was a roler ball one, so i cant compare the lachesis to anything else.

Ye, had the same problem with the jumping, but tuning the sensitivity and like you said, applying the latest firmware fixes it right up.

i say the mx518 ... this mouse may be ancient but it produces the results :D hell it made such a big impact that logitech started selling again awhile back with increased dpi and allowing setpiont to have more features with it ...
 
I can highly recommend the MSI Star Mouse. It's a crap name sure, and the artwork on the mouse is a bit lame, but at R250 it really is a steal. It has on-the-fly dpi switching, two very conveniently placed programmable buttons above your thumb (which you can also change between three different programmed modes on-the-fly), you can adjust the weight of the mouse too with eight little weights that are easy to change around. All the buttons seem to be comfortably positioned and the shape of the mouse is very very comfy too.

Did I mention it cost R250 from some online SA site that I can't remember. Google it
 
If I could have any gaming mouse it would probably be the Razer Mamba. It'll cost on the order of R1.2k - R1.5k, though :'(

A friend of mine and I were actually discussing designing and manufacturing a best-of-both-worlds type of mouse and a few months later Razer released the Mamba :).
 
SteelSeries reminds me of Apple: shiny stuff that looks really cool that you really want because its said to be the best and wa'eva ... but the worst value for money!
 
Depends on exactly what you want. Yes the G5 is a good piece of hardware, also look at the Razer Diamondback 3G and the Deathadder... just depends on what you're most comfortable with.
