What's the best value for money you got for gaming?

Slight modification to the title - I'm not interested in that 5 ZAR indie card game you played. That's not what I mean by value for money.

More like: CoD4 - paid like 200 zar and played it for like 400 hours. Epic times.

Or put differently, the kind of game you walked away from thinking...300zar...900zar...meh whatever worth it at either price.

Slight add-on: Feel free to mention software/websites/subscription services that stand out in your mind too. Why not.

For me stardew valley. Cant remember what it cost but i have spend close to 200 hours in it. Same for minecraft.

Guildwars 1 and 2 gave me about 2700~ hours before I stopped playing. Ironically I am thinking of going back to GW2 sometime. I can't recall so well that I had paid for Guildwars 2, I know I got the GW1 collection for around R 200.

Other than that, I ranked up outrageous amount of time in Killzone: Shadowfall, Driveclub, Counter-Strike, Battlefield, League of Legends, Starcraft, Call of Duty, Borderlands and soon to be Overwatch. It is easily over 2500+ hours

Guild Wars 2. I paid R600 for it and played around 1200 hours, which equates to around 50c / hour for entertainment.

More recently I played The Witcher 3, which I paid R300 for and played for just under 100 hours. The price / hours ratio isn't as impressive as Guild Wars 2, but I still feel it was time and money well spent.

I see one of my friends is STILL playing Grim Dawn. He paid R150 for it and has racked up 1100 hours in it already. That's almost at the 10c / hour mark. Madness, I tell you.

No amount of money I have spent on Destiny has made me regret it. I've bought the game (collectors edition) and every subsequent DLC on day one and I think my total play time is around 1000 hours.

Surprisingly to say this, but I think The Division for me was superb value. I was engrossed in the game from release and only paid R600... so 120 hours equates to R5p/h of entertainment. Great Value!

Dark Souls franchise for me, I own almost each title on each platform and have spent hundreds of hours in each.

Of recent I have Titanfall 2, bought on special for ~R400 and spent around 20 hours thus far. Sill plenty to go in MP so definitely getting value there too.

BeoTeK I see the Destiny pack + DLC is going for R469 on the PS store right now. Worth it?
mottamort let's hear it man. Will be an interesting observation.

If you like that kind of game. Albeit my opinion is very biased. Though I doubt anyone here who plays it will argue that it is by far one of the best console FPS titles you will play. The gunplay is super tight, you can tell Bungie know their shit. I'll admit their busniess model was a tad fuckedup but most of that shit has been iron out over the past 2 years and it's a much better game with a massive community. Just think it will die once Destiny 2 comes towards September.

The big question: is it worth it purely from a single player perspective? Is there enough content in the base game + DLC to keep me soloing for around 30-40 hours? I feel I would've gotten my money's worth then...

I think so, the "story" or campaign can be done completely solo and the cinematics are really, really good!

The only games that really come to mind that I would say was real good value for money was:

Minecraft - I payed something like R150 for the alpha access, and played many 100's of hours. I played Minecraft on-off for almost 6 years, all for only R150

Kerbal Space Program - sitting at north of 400 hours, this game was every single cent worth it.

Test Drive Unlimited - I got this on Xbox 360, I paid something in the area of R300 for it second hand, and my word, I put in a metric ton of hours into that game.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 - Another second hand bundle, I only got into the Mass Effect crazy a few years into it. Both games were in a second hand bundle I got for Xbox 360, and well, even though I can't remember the actual amount I paid, it was all absolutely worth it in the end.

In terms of services, I'd say that Google Music, Showmax and Netflix are all services I cannot live without, and happily pay their subscriptions each month.

Ok, where to begin...On origin:

FIFA 13: 600+ hours - spent: 0 Lots of fun had, got 2 copies of this from the learn2code promo, many friday nights LANning this

BF3: 300+ hours - spent: 0 gifts from Humble Bundle, again also lanned this, many times alternating between these 2 games.

Then steam...
Half-Life 2: 18 hours - spent: 0 steamgifts ftw.... best time I"ve ever spent, replaying this game for the achievements :D

ARK:Survival Evolved: 350+ hours - spent: $23.99 - While I currently loathe the developers for the stuff they've pulled, I can't deny having really amazing times in this game...so money I don't regret spending definitely.

I won't list all the Non-AAA free games like Adventure capitalist or RoTMG here as well as the Non-AAA "free" games I've received, as that would be like 300+ games :D

Probably World of Warcraft.

I never played on the official servers, always on private/pirate servers. I also never bought the game :3

I honestly don't know how much time I spent on WoW; I played both TBC and WotLK. I had an addon when I played WotLK (Altoholic) that would show you have my hours/days you have spent on each character, and then a total for the account. I remember that I had more than 70 days on my account on the one server I played (think it was Molten).
70 days = 1680 hours, and that is just one server.

I played on multiple servers over the years due to server closures, moving to better servers, etc. If I had to guess I would say that, in total, I probably spent more than 4000 hours playing WoW. I don't play anymore :)

I once almost got, like, a PS4 for free but it turned out the store's detector worked afterall. Who knew?

I think Trackmania2 Stadium is probably the best buy I ever made. I still go back to it regularly to just unwind and test my high-school German trying to decipher the in-game convos.

Stardew Valley should probably get a special mention as well.

I'd have to say Battlefield: Bad Company 2 it was awesome playing that game. Steam tells me 600+ hours.

Wait what? :wtf:

Need for Speed 3 paid R99 back in 1999, the salesman at makro just wanted to sell sega rally 2 to me, even showing me that it looked better than nfs but i didnt care as that was the game that i wanted I still have it (with all its original packaging, still play it, still modding it :) probably put in over 20 000+ hours in that game.

Bioshock - Paid R750 when it came out, was uber Expensive for a game back then in 2007, it also killed my launch xenon xbox and i had to swop it out with Incredible connection and midigital (another R600) for a falcon replacement (which had HDMI :D) when the red ring fiasco was upon us back then, it was still worth the money and i probably finished it 5 times and its still today one of the best games that you can play on the market.

Forza 4 paid just over R400 on the day of release (ebay) compared to what it did cost here, still playing it.

Bloodborne - I have no idea how many hours I've played, but I still play it pretty much every week since it released.

Borderlands 2 - Currently at 310 hours on PC and another 50 odd hours on PS3 and then some more on PS4.

There are loads more but my brain can't recall them right now.
