Please don't talk about the content just what you thought of the book and any thoughts on the movie.
I started reading this in 2006 and it is hard to find so now I am on book 3 and I think this is by far the best fantasy ever.
I loved it up to book 3.
what movie?!
Do you know that the author died before finishing it?
Read all the books up to 11. I got 12, which was finished by Brandon Sanderson, but I haven't read it yet. (I can't quite remember exactly what was going on and I don't feel like reading all 11 again now, too many other books to read). Will get round to it eventually I suppose.
Gotta agree with Tsar that it's the best fantasy ever. Enjoyed it a lot more than LOTR, although it can get a bit lengthy at times. Jordan's writing is excellent.
On the topic of a movie: I don't see how this is possible. There is simply too much going on the books for them to be made into a decent movie. They would have to cut out so much of the story that it would be ruined. A mini-series might be a better Idea, but I don't really see how that's possible either.

Book 12 is astonishingly good. I really think Brandon Sanderson did full justice to it, and hopefully the other two from him will be just as good. The pacing in the book also starts to pick up quite dramatically, since the story is essentially getting tied up, before the final battle.
On the topic of the series generally, it's definitely my all time favourite. People complain that the books pace really falls off in the middle. I don't think it's a problem. It's a natural side-effect of adding the sheer DEPTH to the story that RJ did. Frankly, I'd rather have a fairly slow-paced book, with an immensely detailed story-line, than a fast-paced book with virtually no plot to back it up.
Very amped for december this year...
I had that game, but it didn't work with XP. As far as I know they are busy making a new game, as well as an MMO. It definitely has more of an adult feel than LOTR, but then again, LOTR started out as a children's tale.
I really dig Perrin and Matt, Rand not so much.
I remember reading one of these books years ago and hating it. It's a problem with fantasy novels for me - they're kinda hard to take seriously, and they all too quickly fall into tedious clichés. It's almost a pity, though, as I loved fantasy novels when I was a kid. I remember reading loads of Raymond Feist and David Eddings as a kid. Perhaps I just read too many of the same stories.
I've mostly abandoned the genre these days, although I do enjoy China Miéville very much. I guess his books are only barely fantasy, though.
I'm not really a big fantasy fan either, only read this and LOTR and the Witcher books. I enjoy psychological thrillers and "strange" books, e.g. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and Waiting Period by Hubert Selby Jr. (all his books are quite strange).
However, I have never come across the depth and character development I found in Wheel of Time in any other book or series. Robert Jordan was a phenomenal writer.
Shhhhhh, im om page 279 of book one![]()
