When Intros were impressive

I remember a time when starting up a game you sat and you watched the intro, with the birth of FMV these became more and more complex, then for some reason intro's just became normal and boring in away.
Gone are the days of Mechwarrior 2

Or Red Alert's

Then there was a little gem that I don't know a lot of people playing

Blade Runner, there were so many brilliant intro's and a lot of them I knew off by heart, Dungeon Keeper, Syndicate, Diablo 1 and 2, I've not seen intro's like they used to make them, any memories on great intro's of yesteryear?

Edit*-I missed red alert's intro in your post. Replaced with something else.

best intro i've seen in a video game was

Soul Blade (was called soul edge in the arcades)

even today it still looks good

You know, I've pondered this very thing, and it seems to me that in the old days they really needed an awesome looking intro to impress people because of the limitations on what the actual gameplay could look like back then. The intro's always looked way better than the gameplay, but nowadays the gameplay itself and the cutscenes look fantastic, so they can incorporate what would have been a long intro into the actual game, and throw in cutscenes here and there that look the same as the gameplay, except maybe a bit more cinematic seamlessly

It is probably the reason you are right, I remember Final Fantasy VII intro and it was like wow wow and then played the game and was like aaaw, even up to PS2 era, look at Metal Gear Solid 2's intro it's amazing, gameplay wasn't the same though. Oh also to the other guys, Blizzard has always been exceptional in Cutscenes and intro's but they are the exception not like in the past where almost every game had an impressive intro.

Also Dungeon Keepers intro :-)

For intros, the Dune game was the earliest that impressed me the most. I remember going WOW, that is good! And on relatively low powered hardware as well.

I just remember Warcraft 1's intro...well today I think I can only remember the first line which went something like..."In the age of chaos, two factions battle for dominance..." Lol, can't remember the rest. Good times man.

Sounds vaguely familar, loved the game, never knew how big it would get :-D. Blizzard knows cutscenes, of course Westwood used to be up there as well.

Lol, this might be a bit out of place, but OF: Dragon Rising had a pretty cool intro:

Coincidentally, one of the comments are exactly what I wanted to say- It was the best part of the game.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to the OP, but intros from current games are still awesome. AC: Revelations has the best intro that I have ever seen (if the first part can be called a intro). The Witcher 2 for Xbox 360 has a damn good intro as well. Just saying...
