Which keyboard?

Howzit guys and gals...

I would like to have your opinions about the following. My birthday is coming up and the wife said she will give me R1000 to get something that I would like. My old Cyber Snipa Warboard is nearing end of life and I would love to get a new one. Now herein lies the question. Do I go for mechanical or stay with "normal" keyboards. I would love something with a bit of lights and a usb port. I have seen the following which fits a bit into my budget (well almost - i'll twist her arm a bit). Coolermaster Trigger, Thermaltake Meka G-Unit, Razer blackwidow Ultimate. What would you guys recommend out of these and others maybe?

Thanks!

I have the Gigabyte Avia, nice keyboard, with lights and usb port on the side. R650 odd but then again I can't understand why people would spend R1000 on a keyboard

I wouldn't touch the blackwidow ultimate, heard loads of stories of them failing. Keys getting stuck etc. What about the Cyborg V7? Or the Logitech G510? Both great KB's. Or if you want something a little different the Steelseries Merc stealth is pretty cool.

if you want it to last , Then get Logitech.

The new G510 is a good choice ( use one for my gaming ) but Ive also got a G19. IF you lan a lot .. don't go G19 it requires external power.

The G510 can set the keys to multiple colours and even has a on-board sound card.

The G110 is the budget keyboard minus the LCD. So it should be a OK>

Id try and see if i can get a nice deal on a G110 keyboard and then get myself a G400 mouse .

best treat you can give yourself :D

it looks like logitech has the majority vote. the g510 and g110 looks awesome. has anybody got any experience with the roccat isku?

yeah Logitech are good. I had a Logitech media keyboard, its now at work. Picked it up for R100 and am very impressed with it. Not the most expensive keyboard but for its price bracket it is definitely the best out there so the name is more then just a name it really is quality. I think the g110 is nearing the end of its shelf life as it has been out for a long time so I would go for the g510 out of the 2.

Logitech are great. However I have a rule I go by, for gaming gear I will buy Logitech, but for office use I will go for Microsoft. I find the cheaper low end Logitech stuff crap. They chew batteries if its wireless and just crap.

spooner are you and I going to have a problem? You are going directly against what I just said lol :)
The logitech that I am using at work is basic but its really soft, the keys are smaller at the top to make space in between them so it doesn't feel so cramped compared to the real cheap shit we have here. It is spill resistant with the holes at the bottom for any office tea spills, they happen fairly often here. Plus its not usb so it works with the old pc's we have here lol, so that is just added brownies lol

Steelseries Merc Stealth. /

Great KB but lack of dedicated numpad might drive some people nuts like it did me.

looool :p

You know what dude, I have thought it through on the way home and I take back what I said. MS and Logitech actually have kak bottom of the range KB's. BUT I do remember I actually bought a cheap MS combo a few years back and took it back and replaced it with a Logitech cheapy. Both are shit, but the Logitech was better. :)

Happy? :p

Still using a G15 I bought years ago, logitechs after sales service is brilliant ( I had some pain rub off one of the keys and they sent me a new one :P)

Blackwidow...Use 3 of them won't swap them for anything else. Yeah the keys a re a bit sticky when you get them but once its worked in..I can't describe it..they are a dream to work with. A while ago I would have said go for the ultimate but I've changed my mind about that...the normal Blackwidow is a fantastic board, one of very few Razer products I'll gladly recommend.

Black widows are outstanding boards. And i am sorry, but people who recommend logitech over any mechanical board has never used one.

The Coolermasters are basically rebranded filco boards, known to be some of the best in the world.

My 2c.

I bought the Roccat Arvo earlier this year as I wanted something compact and sturdy - don't need 500 macro keys and too much backlighting, and a month later I saw the Isku and I still find myself drooling over it.

I can definitely vouch for the quality build of the Roccat brand as all my PC peripherals are Roccat - even have the Apuri for my mouse just to complete the set.

The mechanical keyboards are quite popular as well. Not only the clicky sounds of the keys (you get used to that -I actually enjoy the sound and will probably upgrade to mechanical soon), but the responsiveness, how nice it feels to type on them etc. Do yourself a favour, and go to a PC shop that has mechanical keyboards in stock and check it out for yourself. You'll be amazed by the difference between that and the normal membrane keyboards. DAS is a good brand, also see the ones from Coolermaster, very nice.

If I had the bucks, THIS, would have been my new keyboard: http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=3089&product_name=CM%20Storm%20Trigger

Yeah a bit happier lol, but with bottom of the range keyboards of Microsoft and Logi's they compete against the Labtech's, Genius and well crappy ones like Javelin etc. Labtech's aren't too bad but just not good enough

I'm sorry but does having a mechanical board make some one better at a game than someone that does not?

Nope, but they are gorgeous to type on. I type a lot, I actually sold my G19 a little while ago so I can pick up another blackwidow tomorrow :) They are awesome boards and compared to other mech boards they are well priced.
