which notebook to choose?

Im looking at buying a new notebook. Wanna spend like R7000. Will probably get it at cost. With that in mind what would be a fairly good notebook with average gaming ability?

Unfortunately there really isn't a laptop within that range of price that will be able to play games at anything above low settings. Perhaps look at either putting a little more money in or looking second hand?

Ok if you're not worried about gaming so much - and at 7k you had better not be lol - i would recommend Acer Aspire 5732Z. I had one just very recently and it was gorgeous - 15.6", 4gb/500gb, led backlit, full keyboard with numeric keypad.

have a look at computermania's catalog ... i saw some nice decent laptops in their ... doubt you will find a laptop that will max graphics out in gaming tho ...

Acers are not badly priced and quite decently specced, but I've been burned by them, horrible service, horrible replacement policies etc... If you do get a decent one then it is a very nice laptop.

If you hadn't needed a laptop for gaming, I would have recommended the HP Compaq 610
We bought one last year and are pretty happy with it so far. We got it for around R6000
from Crown Technologies.

Why do you need a laptop for gaming, by the way?

I get that the HP550 has newer Intel graphics than the HP530. But I don't think this will really affect performance very much. Rather, the newer chipset in the HP550, and the T5270's 800MHz FSB might make the difference. However, I still think that the performance difference between the two notebooks (as a whole) will be negligible. And in fact, the HP 530 might even pull ahead slightly.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5738G mostly for varsity work, but also so that I could play games on it whenever I travel away from home. Unfortunately, despite some decent speccs for the price (2.2GHZ Core2Duo, 4GB ram, dedicated 512mb HD 4570G, for 9k or so from IC), I've really not been impressed with its 3D performance. It could be I'm doing something wrong with the configuration, and I've not really tried much gaming on it at all for that matter, so maybe it'll run other titles than what I've tried fine, but I had to turn things way down in WoW even, and that's not a demanding game at all, other than for the high-res shadows.

HP Probook 4510s
Intel Core 2 Duo T6570 2.10 GHz 2048MB DDR3
1333MHz 2 DIMMS 320 GB 7200rpm LightScribe DVD+/-RW - Fixed Bluetooth
Module Intel 802.11 b/g/n No 56K Modem15.6 HD BRIGHTVIEW LCD+ Camera
Intel Media Graphics Mobile HD4500 WINDOWS 7 PRO 32 w/XPP

I have gone with the HP probook. Decided im gonna stick with my trusty PS3 for gaming. ;) Really use computer for projects and movies only and I think this one is pretty sweet for that purpose.
