Seeing that ADSL lines can be rented from ISPs for quite some time now, I'm interested in seeing who has been using who. Also, if you've had to log an adsl fault before, how well did they handle this?

I'm with Axxess. So far, whenever I've logged a fault they would just "reset the port", even when I told them the line was completely dead, so I had to go to Telkom support anyway.

MWEB handles all my line faults. If the issue is with Telkom, they will report the fault and escalate it after 24 hrs if nothing has been done. They are quite good at that. After every fault reported, I always get a call back to confirm that all is sorted.

Quick question... If you rent the ADSL line through an ISP, are you locked in with them? In other words, can you only connect to them as ISP or can you still connect to any ISP?

No it's not locked, my line rental is through Axxess and I connect through Mweb.

Telkom, had a line problem they sent a guy within the week to check. Since then no problems other than the "power user" label they've given me :(.

Recently moved my line from Telkom to Mweb. Trying to avoid those incompetent basterds. I always lose my cool when I'm on the phone with one of those ladies and they keep redirecting me to other departments because none of them have a clue what I'm talking about...

I'm with Afrihost with the line rental, main thing that i like is they give you a dashboard to manage your line yourself. I don't even have to log a call, if i want to reset my ports or my lines or sync at a slower rate, i click a button. I can see all my line stats (attenuation etc) on Afrihost's website and up to now, i could fix issues with disconnects and bad performance by using their automatic "wizard" . I specifically had major issues when Telkom upped my sync speed to 6MB/s and it made my entire experience very unstable, constant disconnect or speeds dropping, so i got it to sync at 5MB/s instead, problem solved.

Haven't had an issue where i required a technician yet.

I saw that option, they even migrate your line from other ISPs over the internet.

We have all our lines with Mweb and i control everything from my Reseller control panel - Wonderful.

The only time i need to contact Helkom is when there is an exchange / physical port fault. Sync speed for up and down i change myself as needed.

Very happy atm.

Before our line was with WA, we reported a fault on the line to Telscum, took them 4 weeks to send a techie to the house. Between being on hold at Telscum and the waiting it was a long drawn out story.

Switched the line to WA, had one issue since then, 5min wait on hold, they contacted telscum for me, it was a problem at the exchange and they fixed it the next day.

Had great service from Telkom while my line is been with them and they do it under 3 days even when my telephone was completely down.

They put me under business since I said I do work at home which means higher priority :D

I'm with Afrihost and I've never had to report a line. I once used the port reset feature in the clientzone, but that was because I was curious and not because the line gave me trouble. The line has been dead twice that I recall, but it was up again before I could even report it.

Telkom.
We have one of their bundles where we get free calls etc with 10gb internet (yeah still on capped )
Don't really have any problems with them as a ISP though.

I've got my line with Mweb, but an account with Openweb. I've just never bothered to cancel my 2gb account with Mweb, so the line can stay with them for all I care.
