What kind of line will you need to Stream shows smoothly in HD? And how much bandwidth will it take?
I would suggest you go Uncapped coz an episode of something can range between 200 and 500mb with a movie taking between 1.2 and 1.8 gigs... And nothing less than a 4meg line...
Baring in mind that im speaking from my experience here, and I use 3G at the moment because im "between houses" so cant go for anything permanent...
But will Netflix really be worth it then? Taking into account the line rental, isp and all other costs involved :/ Does not seem viable in South Africa

If it saves you the R700+ you would pay for DSTV, then it really is worth it, and then you also have uncapped internet (yay!). Although, as Tom mentioned, you want to watch sport, that's another story.
Thats true yes, I chose to put my DSTV off. just a bunch of crap on there. But the sport is a real big problem sometimes.
I had cancelled my DSTV long before I started with Netflix and Hulu, just wasn't worth it for me, and you need the PVR to make sure there's ever anything to watch, and that's extra as well.
I did however already have uncapped ADSL, so just paying a couple of hundred rand wasn't too much of a big deal. It is more expensive than it used to be thanks to the exchange rate, but it's still not bad
That I would totally sign up, also if the content was immediate and those retard series/movie makers realised its the digital era and gave content now.
Maybe I will go and have a look, starting to feel like a real Pirate![]()
For me I was paying for Iburst, 2mb R699, plus dstv R800, then 8ta R200(for those ninja patches and mobility).i don't party or go out pretty much at all so it was affordable. Then dstv went up and I couldn't afford.I had cancelled my DSTV long before I started with Netflix and Hulu, just wasn't worth it for me, and you need the PVR to make sure there's ever anything to watch, and that's extra as well.

You know although using Netflix here is somehow technically piracy, it's also not really, you are paying the asking price for a consumer product, Netflix and the people who make the shows are getting the money they ask for. All you're doing is bypassing the regional restriction (and so accessing a service which they are not licensed to provide here), which only really hurts people like Multichoice who have a monopoly here and overcharge us for an inferior product. I feel way better for doing this than I would if I were actually pirating the shows.

So when I moved to my new place it supported level-7 wimax, so I got R799 pm 4mb up/1 mb. She watches while I play and she will only complain when steam does a download in the background. So in total I'm paying roughly R1000 now and so so happy.
They are great i have to say, they dont stop the infamous dns thing aswell.Dude she watches and I play and stream same time. The series I locked it to 360p as she agrees what's the point of hd series, when we watch had movies though I have to stop downloads.Netflix is available for South Africa legally now, without having use VPNs or whatever. So I can clean myself of the Pirate feeling totally

Yip uncapped shaped 4mb up/ 1mb down.though they did tell me I'm like 1 km from high site. Just take note with Netflix, you need to build your interests before it starts showing most of its context. When I first got it I thought it was cap till it started building my interest list, now I'm getting super awsum content. Also they released the interview this weekend. What a lol that movie is.Do you have the 4mb Shaped? This is very good news for me

Yea I'm sure you do, they honestly don't shape unless you are raping their lines 24/7 at max line speed. Still hasn't happened to me yet. Yeah it's not bad compared to R9600 a year(dstv) + Internet + R220 (tv license) + the calls to dstv qhich they just tell you to drive your decoder around.compared to R562(netflix) + uno + InternetThink I have the same! Will def be looking into getting netflix then. 49.9$ per year now I see

But you have netflix the legal way now right? No need to jippo the ip and things like that right? Have never tried netflix before. Just know you needed a VPN or something like that to get it to work in SA
