Why is technology so expensive?

I asked myself this question as i browsed through an advert. The prices to me are obsured. Take these prices for example:
. PS4 R6000
. Xbox1 R8000
. Alienware laptop R15000 upwards
. Samsung Plasma screen R400000
. Basic laptop R6000
I don't get why tech has to be so expensive because the world is in facing a economic crisis and basically you cant do many things in life without it. Is it because the components expensive or Does it take time to make it?

A very big portion of the money you pay for these items actually go into research and development of new products, not to mention marketing, which no large company can survive without these days.

The stuff you mentioned are all luxury items, so as long as people keep buying them at those prices, the prices will stay as they are, or even increase. No company is ever going to lower their prices because they feel sorry for you.

The only things that really drive prices down are lack of demand and good competition.
 
So i guess its either you save cash for the item you want or just take it up on a 24 months payment plan, if you qualify.

Takelot and Kalahari use a 30-40 percent interest rate, its not worth paying double over a year.
 
The government should just pull the plug on Bafana Bafana and use the money they pay these "soccer stars" to make a company manufacturing cheaper technology for SA citizens.
 
To add salt to this wound, you would probably fall over if you knew how much it actually cost to manufacturer things.
 
There are many costs involved in the making of these products.

Research.
Studies.
Testing of product.
Having it built, manufactured and distributed to various countries worldwide; all these elements factor into the pricing of the equipment.

Oh, I don't know... Stuff costs a lot to make and without a huge demand for things like the 40K television just yet, the manufacturing process suffers. Remember when BluRay players cost BAJILLIONZ?

As for stuff like the PS3 and Xbox costing that much... That makes no sense. That's downright madness. But I guess if people are willing to pay that much then... whatever. Hats off to the business owner for milking their stupidity. That is, after all, what capitalism is all about.
