Why most people don't finish video games

Interesting read...
sad to say that I fall partially in that catagory... :(
i would love to finish all the games i get, but time is not on my side...

I think although some games, like RPG games, can take long to complete. If they grab your attention and "draw you in" the game length does not matter. It is an accomplishment in its own to complete the game.

I finish games if I enjoy playing them, and if it manages to keep me interested.

Some games actually have me dreading the end as I enjoy them that much.

I recently donated alot of my old games and kept the ones I still want to complete (Mainly Dark Messiah Might and Magic). However, I do complete about half of my games. I have started keeping their shortcuts on my taskbar. I hate messy taskbars. So now I complete them to get rid of them on my taskbar. I am so bored with Crysis. It should have finished by now. But I will complete it so I can remove the shortcut from my taskbar. Same for Duke Nukem Forever. But I regret ever starting it.

I played Oblivion for over 300 Hours and never completed the main story line. Just did millions of sidequests and bought all expansions and had 20Gigs of mods :P

I think EVERYONE has completed the Portal 1 & 2 and Half life series games. They had the right idea long long ago of having short campaigns, more of them released in appropriate times and for cheaper. They achieved the first of those 3 points quite admirabley.. As for the released quicker and for cheaper.... well, they failed.

I buy a lot of games, but will only play the next once or if I finish the current one.

But there are a number of games out there that I haven't finished purely due to frustration / boredom.

Steam Sales are the reason I dont finish games. As soon as I get anywhere, a new sale comes along and I buy more games! I think I need to make a pact to not buy any more games until I've finished (or a least start) all the ones I own already...

Well, MMO's do play a large role in one of the reasons but as well as the fact that people get bored of games or maybe in some cases they just get stuck on a stage and decide to give up!

Could also be that Valve made bloody gripping games :D

Reason for me not finishing games is being spoiled for choice , I have a list of games I generally don't feel in the mood to play.
Perhaps I need to make a list and start at the top and just finish it.
Games with multiple endings also stay on the uncompleted list for the sheer fact that Id like to see every possible ending.

Lol I still try to complete all my games although I have about 6 or 7 that still need completion. Sadly time gets limited but fortunately university holidays are long and sleep is for the dead so I'll finish them all up by that end of the holidays. Unfortunately I'm also an achievement junkie and will Continue to play till I have all the achievements. So I'll also probs end up not finishing some games these coming December holidays since there are going to be a few new shiny additions over the next 2 months ^_^

u come from work tired and hungry, as soon as u plug in ur machine and ur killzone loads..u r now on the battle flield..bahm bahm, then ur lady calls and tells u she is coming ova..damn.

I do not finish games because I am somewhat of a perfectionist. I tend to start over again and again, later on I just get bored and play something else.

Agreed... especially with this "Summer Camp" sale that steam had recently and I think Gamers Gate also had a bunch of specials on.
Other times it simply depends on my mood or laziness to learn how to play the new game first or a lot of the time, if I recently finished a great game (especially one that can have multiple possible endings), I find myself replaying the great game rather than moving on to the new one.

I always say to myself. I will not buy another game until I finish the one I just bought. Then i get stuck on these forums hearing everyone going on about how awesome that new game is and I give in to peer pressure.
Dam you word of mouth advertising.
