Why SGS is no longer a viable server option for SA Gamers!

I have been a SGS fan ever since I started gaming online. If I was playing on a GameZone(Mweb) server I would rant at the bad latencies(and anything else I could find wrong)and if I was on a SGS server I would Rave about the low pings(and anything else I could think of which included maps and everything else which made SGS stand out) I would happily call myself a SGS fan boy.In March 2007 I become a gaming admin for SGS and everything was going so well, all our emails and requests were answered on time by a wonderful woman called Amber who worked under Elyzium and handled some of the games including the one I was administering for(Half life 2:Death Match). This lasted a year when in march 2008 I was transferred from the game HL2DM to the new Team fortress 2.

After moving from HL2DM I was getting reports from HL2DM admins that emails were no longer being answered and issues on the server where not being handled properly which was very odd,It was then found(possible speculation) that Amber had left SGS and the only person handling requests was Elyzium who was spending time on the "More important games". Slowly but surly less and less things were being done at SGS which lead to more problems and what I believe was a overload of requests that could not be fulfilled, because of this some say that this was the reason why all the SGS admins were dismissed of their duties as of Christmas day 2009.

This however is not the reason I think SGS is no longer a viable option for us gamers! SGS is slowly losing gaming ground wile other ISP's like IS,Iburst, vodacom and more recently Web Africa(WAGE) are entering the market and pulling a lot of gamers away from SGS,The most compelling being IS(Internet solutions).I believe the reason for this is because of SGS's lack of replying to both admins and gamers emails and requests as well as their(dare I say it)old fashioned Rules of engagement which a lot of gamers do not agree with although I think is fine.

This however is also not the reason why I think SGS should be Left 4 dead but rather the recently announced
WAGE gaming which stands for Web Africa GamEs.Web Africa has a compelling service for gamers called FreeZone. If you have not heard of it already freezone is service from web Africa which allows you to do certain things online and not lose any bandwidth wile doing so and one of the freezone services is online gaming! If you using Web Africa as your ISP and you play on any WAGE Server no bandwidth will be deducted from your account.

Now I know what most of you are thinking"there is no ways I will be changing my ISP just so that I can play games online for free"which is just what I thought when I heard about it but you don't have to! Web Africa sells Prepaid accounts which include free zone, this means you can buy a 1GB prepaid account from Web Africa and only use that for gaming and if you only play on WAGE servers you will never have to pay to game online again!

Web Africa are also adding free downloads from their Steam content Server! This means that you can buy games on steam and download them off their content server and not have to pay for a single MB of bandwidth and a lot more services are expected to become available with freezone.

And that is the reason I am no longer a SGS fan and slowly moving over to WAGE. I will be buying a Web Africa account and start making WAGE my primary gaming servers of choice followed by SGS.

Is this a ad?

Nope.

Everyone else is improving their service / upgrading and trying to improve gaming in South Africa by making it more accessable.

SAIX is stuck in time and is getting obsulete very fast, I don't even know anymore who's in charge there anymore. Everything is on autopilot. Servers go up, but they take ages to be updated if ever and important issues takes ages to get solved if ever.

I'll be using Wage until we can get 4mb uncapped for around R300. So basically i'll be using Wage for the rest of my life lol :).

Uncapped solutions are becoming cheaper which would pretty much make Wage gaming servers pointless.

It's not R70 once off for uncapped. It's still a while before most adsl users will be able to afford uncapped. Currently it's possible to buy a 1 gig prepaid and then play on the WAGE servers using no bandwidth. And the prepaid never (I think it's never) expires. Hell for all I know you can use the local prepaid option for R19.

However that's a once off amount which will keep you gaming for years.

AFAIK blended prepaid expires after 12 months. But 12 months is plenty of time to use up 1GB :D Prepaid always comes in handy for when all my other accounts are capped :)

It's really well written though. I enjoyed reading it. And the person is correct, join WebAfrica now!
Definitely, with lots of nice hyperlinks for those that haven't heard of WAGE and WebAfrica :p

This is 100% true SAIX gaming is going to the dogs wile other ISP's (mainly IS) are gaining ground and "steeling"If you can call it that gamers.

However IS never had a reason for me to play on their servers. If I could have a choice I would always go for SGS but that's now all changed!

Is that the case? I did look on their prepaid page and could not find an expire date :( I still think this is a good idea!

Paying R70 a year for uncapped gaming is a no brainier!

Point noted :)

I did not know I could use a prepaid account for gaming as well. I thought I could only use a prepaid account for the steam content server.

SGS's Team Fortress 2 servers are/were the most cliquey, madly moderated servers ever. Ill-appointed admins just let their friends grief everyone, and nobody could complain about it. I stopped playing on them about 18 months ago already. Good latencies mean nothing when the social environment is so toxic.

You have some what the wrong idea! The SGS admins did their jobs by the ROE,the admins were not the problem the ROE was. When I was a SGS admin I did my job by the book and whether the player was my friend or not I handled the situation evenly, I have banned friends from the SGS server's! They knew the rules but thought they could get away with them.

Then Ely went and added an auto ban feature on all the server's which aurtomaticly banned any one who said a "bad" word. In my opinion this was a stupid idea on SGS's part,we were flooded with queries where some people spelt impossible wrong and got banned. it also banned users that we had given a warning to which made matters worse!

This all lead to the falling of SGS but I now believe that WAGE has or will make that gap even wider with this freezone offering.

Maybe you did a proper job of being an admin, but others didn't. _enemy has had a long career griefing the hell out of everyone over on SGS (and making videos of it that everyone's seen on YouTube), and nothing ever happened to him.

The OP reads (and sounds) like the following:

1/ A disgruntled employee, complaining about individual entities / people and airing the 'dirty laundry' in public.

2/ Advertising / Selling a specific (competitor's) service.

These are 2 things that should not be done together, it makes you look immature, desperate, filled with a grudge and resentment and, most importantly, it is unprofessional and lacks integrity.

For the record - I don't have any affiliation with SGS or WAGE... just calling it like I see it.
