Any Wifi specialist here?

This is what I want to do but not sure if possible.

Got my ADSL Router in some corner in my house it has wifi but does not cover where our tv is with my ps3 and Home entertainment system.

I wish to connect a wireless AP to the ps3 and Home entertainment with a Ethernet cable. And let the WIFI connect wireless to the ADLS router in the other room. Without having to connect the ADSL router with the AP with a Ethernet cable.

Hi its possible if both have wpa or using a repeater instead of a AP. There likely other ways aswell however that depends on the hardware your using can become complicated story to setup however it is possible. i know there ubiqueti equipment that forms direct link without any setting up as in "mimic lan cable" it was rather pricy at R1000 odd when i saw it last. hope this helps you in right direction :)

Thanks a search I did took me to the WDS and it sounds like what I want.

@ crusader :D range booster = Repeater.

Yeah don't care for the brand as long as it does what it says.

Looking at this one.

How far is your PS3 from your router, since mine is quite far from my Xbox etc. and can go through thick walls using 300N wireless and can also use it in my garden and my house is quite big.

Could be that your router has weak wireless db

I would just buy a new router like TP-Link 8960N or test a friends one

Yup more information is needed, is it a b,g,n router, how far is it from the PS3, what settings have you done on the router, have you tried different channels as some common one's get filled up quickly.
I've got a 300mb/s one and I can still get 2 bars of signal strength in my garage about 50meters away through thick walls, with a smaller 150mb/s also roughly 2 bars.

OK if your primary goal is to stream media you ae barking up the wrong tree.

The PS 3 wireless is super kak . YOu can barely stream SD content and going into the HD era i dont think it would be wise to disregard the current and go all Wif.

I did the same and wasted a lot of money trying to get it right.

The solution i went for in the end was Ethernet over power . I powered my media player PS 3 and Xbox from a 5 port switch that connected through the power to my Router.

Sounds like you want to bridge the two routers wirelessly? This is what I did, I have a crappy telkom adsl router in my bedroom and I just happened to have a old Linksys WRT54G (fairly cheap) in my lounge and wanted to connect my TV and PS3 to the internet. So I Flashed the Linksys with dd-wrt firmware (to add the wireless bridge functionality) and now i have the following setup

ADSL_LINE --> ADSL_ROUTER --------wirelessbridge----- LINKSYS_ROUTER --> TV/PS3
(TV/PS3 connected to Linksys using lan cables)

Explanation and Diagram here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged

;)

Yeah this is what I would recommend. Although the wifi latency is bad for gaming and the bandwidth won't support great quality streaming. It would be better to install ethernet if possible. Time to dig up those floors!

Got a telkom ADSL Mega 105 WR router wireless 150mb/s B/G No have not used any other channel since we don't connect anything to the wireless so the channel should be open.

Yeah that's what I wanted to make sure about.

You might not be using the channel, but something or someone else could. Also 150 Meg would reach 50m or so, also hop on to the router, change the broadcast strength as well.
