Will Skyrim need Steam?

Okay... Are much spazzing out, steam installed from disc and I now just have a 220MB update :/ Will maybe play tonight. If steam behaves.

Crappest install for a game ever. I wonder why give a disc when Steam just ignores the contents of the disk, and want to download the whole 5.7GB through Steam :/ Had to go search how to force Steam to install from disk, then after that had to wait 5 hours for a 220MB patch to complete because of 'Content is not available right now crap', and also download starting / suspending and max download 20Kb/s, what a load of BS. All this on a 4MB line, so had to play Battlefield 3 while waiting before I killed Steam or myself out of frustration.

Yeah, Steam sounds an absolute pleasure to interact with ..... add to them having a CC / hack scare recently and they really are not looking that different from Origin. All of these 3rd part apps should not be forced on us if we are spending R350+ on a game. GFWL, Origin, Steam - let us decide if we want to use you, don't foist your crap on us.

If I make a product and want to sell it through Steam and use it's extensive resources then that's my choice, not fucking yours. If you don't like it don't buy it.

You are all acting like a bunch of juvenile children.

Rage more bro ...... I think it's quite clear that because of Steam, some won't buy it or will and will just crack it. Keep missing these memo's on where we have to like something because others do

Flip side - if I wanna crack the game after I buy it instead of hassling with Steam, why does it become headline news with imagined gasps of horror and calls of pirate?

You are breaking the terms of conduct which you "signed" when you purchased the product.

You are making excuses for your behavior. I keep missing these memo's where I'm entitled to everything because I'm such a beta.

Entitled?
Excuses?

I don't really care about conduct signing crap, I paid R400 for it which means the devs and their gang got their pound of flesh, finish and klaar. Can I make my game experience easier now, of course because it takes nothing away from the devs and their gang, does it.

P.S -I find it rich getting judged by someone who partakes in the wearing of skull and crossbone hats ;)

You signed a contract when you installed the game, you clicked I agree. You're argument is moot.

Huh?

Don't just say the argument is moot - if you pay for a game and everyone involved gets their share, how is deciding not to use their distro/update system going to take away profits?

Anyway, the core essence of the topic is that some people like Steam, some don't, same with Origin, I don't mind it but so many people have bitched about it. In this day and age, we should have more choice after we buy something.

This.

People seem to be set on the idea that just because they paid for something, they can do whatever the hell they want with it. There's an End User License Agreement in place, that you agree to, that limits what you can do with the product. Just because it doesn't 'harm' the developer doesn't mean the agreement no longer applies.

If a developer decides to go with Steam to protect his product, and you don't like Steam, tough luck. You playing the game isn't your right, it's a privilege extended on terms set out by the developer and publisher. Don't like their terms? Don't buy it.

Whether you do apply a crack to your legally owned game in the end is your own choice, and even I sometimes do it, but my point is just that there isn't a justifiable excuse for doing so.

Also, sorry for DP, but it also needs to be said.

The issues so far encountered in this thread are local issues, on the client's side, not issues with Steam. If they were issues with Steam, it would have happened to everybody, instead it happens to a few people because of incompatibility issues or something of the like.

Remember, Steam is a Digital Distribution Platform, it is huge. I think the amount of Steam users was close to 23 million a while back. Now take into account that you would be very hard-pressed to find two users with the exact same computers, and you should be able to understand that Steam cannot always account for every single PC component, software application or internet connection. There are going to be compatibility issues. This is natural for a platform as big as Steam. Rather be glad that there are working fixes for these problems.

As for the 20kb/s downloads, that's most definitely not Steam's fault. Downloads are done from download servers, like the WebAfrica one, and issues with speed is usually with the client's ADSL account or ISP, or with the content server being overcrowded.

The only thing that can be blamed on Steam is the fact that their servers are too busy to handle the request to activate or install the game, but even that is slightly silly, as nobody expects more than 250k users to install and activate their game in one day. :P

Sheesh some one kakked on someone's steam battery.

It was more of an issue getting skyrim ce out and from bt than installing it. When I finally got it, I installed, I let steam patch it, I played it. Wow that was so fucking terrible .

Same here. The worst issue I had was guessing whether the one character of my Steam key is a Q or an O, because the sticker was slightly damaged.

Well, I installed and cracked and haven't looked back. Been loving every second. I also tried playing through steam but found it broke the immersion when someone signed on or whatever and the little block popped up. Will continue forth with my cracked version, knowing that my bit was done to support the developers.

I couldn't give a shit whether something is against the EULA or not, All I care about is that the gaming industry gets their little bit of my money to continue producing games and I get my game :)

You know you can turn that off.

I like Steam achievements, not as epeen stuff, just as something fun to compare with your mates to what stuff you've been getting up to in game.

You guys are forgetting the fact that some people are having issues. When I tried to install Dungeon Siege III, it didn't want to install from the disk. I had to go through a whole fucking painstaking process to get it to work. And this wasn't the first time something like this happened.

Many of my retail games that I installed also somehow bugged out and Steam tried downloading 10GB+ of data just because it went corrupt somewhere.

I don't usually have too many issues with steam, but some people are constantly in battle with it. So don't judge them when your Steam experience is always butterflies and rainbows. It's not like that for everyone.

Also, a game is a fucking game. It's not a doomsday device which needs a "terms and conditions" of use. Gawd, I mean seriously?! What can you do with a game other than play it? Use it to harm people? Or take over the world? Once you payed for it, it's your property and you can play it the way you want. If you need to crack it to be able to play it, why the hell not?
