ok, so i was buggering around on the friends section on the xbox one, and realised that all my friends wouldnt know what an xbox one is let alone add me as a friend.

so then i wondered how important or necessary is it to have friends and the leaderboards and all that.

does it help in anyway? are there benfits?

i mean is it like the headpiece i got with the xbox (kind of an Apendix for gaming) and put in the drawer never to be seen again?

Its handy to have friends that play the same games that you do. That way you can invite them to a game you're playing.

If you have Live Gold then you can play online with your friends. And um well you can see what they are playing otherwise. I suppose there isn't much use for friends except having for having your friends there.
